Show Local Director Writes Winning Feature S Story ory on Frost Bros Ranch Lyle Taylor lace dir director of the Agricultural Agricultural Agri Agri- cultural n 7 1 and Conservation Service Office last week was awarded a certificate of merit and 25 second prize In a feature story contest of all employees in the state The stories were judged on the basis of interest meaningfulness information and being related to agriculture and conservation Mr Taylors Taylor's article featured featured fea fea- the Frost brothers ranching operations operations oper oper- In Uintah County Frost brothers of Uintah County have used their utility as bronc riders to build a successful ranching operation Nearly everyone who has ever been to a professional rodeo knows of the riding ability of Clyde and Joe Frost professional bareback and saddle bronc riders from Lapoint Some say the boys learned to ride before they were old enough to walk Jim the youngest and B B. B T. T the oldest old est cst of the four make up the rest of the four brother team THE FOUR brothers grew up in Kim Colorado a small dry farming community community ity in southeastern Colorado They learned to work together of necessity at an early age Their parents were separated after Jim was born their father who raised them was unable unable un un- able to work after an accident in 1948 left him paralyzed At the time B B. B T. T the oldest was 15 Then the boys were too young to be hired but they soon learned they could earn money to buy groceries and pay farming expenses by sticking on bucking horses or bulls JOE WON a horse for being best all allaround allaround allaround around cowboy in a kids rodeo when he was nine years old lie He won another house horse before he was in his teens and won his first saddle when he was 15 Clyde won his first championship when he was 15 Joe and Clyde have won several saddles sad dies along with trophies and money earn earn- ings They have participated in nearly every professional rodeo from the Cow Palace in San Francisco to Madison Square Garden in New York City CL CLYDE YDE HAS been in the top ten bareback bareback bare bare- back money winners in the nation six different times and has been a bareback bareback bare bare- back riding director of the Rodeo Cowboys Cowboys Cow Cow- boys Association The cowboys have requested requested re reo quested Clyde to run for their association association assoc assoc- lation president but he felt he was too busy to do justice to the job During their Clyde and Joe have become acquainted with several world champion riders It is not mon to see stars such as Freckles Brown Drown or Benny Reynolds at the Frost Brothers Bro there Ranch EXCEPT FOR expense money Joe Joeand Joeand Joeand and Clyde sent their winnings home togo to togo togo go into their ranch While less known on the rodeo circuit circuit cir clr Jim and B. T are also good cowboys cowboys cow cow- boys but usually have to stay home to get the work done while Joe and Clyde are gone The brothers made a down payment on a ranch north of Lapoint in 1957 AT AT ATTHE THE time they came to Utah ufah Utah B. B T T. T was the only brother married They all lived together in the same ranch house except when they were on the rodeo circuit Now the Frosts are all married and have young families of their own Their wives and children are all excellent riders THROUGH LEASING and buying additional additional ad ad- rundown land and performing many good conservation practices the brothers are now able to run over head of cattle on their ranch When they first purchased their ranch most the range land was growing little littlemore littlemore littlemore more than sagebrush and junipers With sharing cost help from the USDA Agricultural Agricultural Agri Agri- cultural Stabilization and Conservation Service and technical help from the Soil Conservation Service they have cleared over acres of sagebrush juniper and which now has an excellent excellent excel excel- lent stand of crested wheat or tall fescue fescue fes fes- cue growing on It TO CLEAR the brush they purchased a used cat and did the work themselves themselves them them- selves to save costs B.
