Show Over 1 20 Students Participate in Three Summer Camps One hundred and twenty one students participated in three two week two week summer camps at the Ute Tribe Camp in Uinta Canyon The camps were held from June 15 to July 23 and consisted of a variety of field trips throughout the basin INSTRUCTIONAL emphasis was given to the geological development of the area and conservation Students were given background information for the areas that were visited and provided with films and demonstrations whenever possible Support was provided by bythe bythe bythe the Forest Service Park Service Bureau Bureau Bur Bur- eau of Land Management and Boy Scouts Members of these agencies provided supplementary information guide service service ser vice and evening programs The students had an opportunity to visit such areas as Dinosaur National Monument Nine Mile Red Wash Whiterocks Whiterocks White White- rocks Cave Rock Creek and Weaver Reservoir Each camp included one overnight trip which was always a highlight highlight high high- light of the camp EIGHT STUDENTS from the Granite School District in m Salt Lake City participated participated par par- in the final camp through the exchange program with Crestview Elementary Elementary Elementary Ele Ele- School The associations that developed provided an excellent opportunIty opportunity opportunity for students from both areas to exchange ideas and find out more about how people in different areas live The summer camp provides a tremendous tremendous tre opportunity for students to experience ex the outdoors on the first hand basis Appreciation for the natural resources resources re reo sources that are theirs and awareness of the many problems that must be corrected and what is being done to help can be presented in such a way that has meaning for the students THE SUMMER camp is one of the most enjoyable and rewarding programs that is provided in the summer pro pro- gram It is hoped that support will continue con to grow and a greater number of students will be able to participate st stated stat t ted ed officials |
