Show Vernal Jr High Dress Code Poll Indicates Acceptance I In a study made recently by the Ver Vernal nal Jr High School administration faculty faculty faculty fac fac- representatives officers officers of of- and PTA officers concerning dress standards at the school endorsement endorse ment of the schools school's dress code was approved by over 85 per cent of interested Interested interested inter Inter- ested persons participating The student council made an item item item-by- by item consideration of the dress code and charted recommendations The Tle council unanimously endorsed the dress code as it is being applied this year THE FACULTY held held an open discus discussion discussion sion slon on all foreseeable aspects of the dress code and charted recommendations recommends recommends- The faculty was nearly unanimous in endorsing the code as being applied this yearA year A Boys and Girls League project polled polled polled poll poll- ed all students of Vernal Jr High School The results were tabulated by a math class analyzed and charted THE poll revealed that t 1 67 97 7 per cent of of the students think boys soya oy respect girls more more who are are dressed dressed dressed dress dress- ed modestly and 66 66 per per cent of the students think l the the dress code as pr presently presently pre pre- being applied is reasonable The PTA sent surveys surveys' by mail mall to parents representing students Results from this survey were tabulated and charted by members members mem memo bers of the PT PTA A officers and the school administration IT IT WAS Intended t to contact all homes but a misunderstanding resulted in approximately approximately approximately ap ap- ap- ap proximately 80 80 families being missed Students from these families have been asked to pick up the survey for their families The PTA survey revealed that in regards regards re reo re- re gards to dress hemlines 82 per cent surveyed indicated they prefer t to keep the dress dress' code as now being applied hemline no higher than three inches above the top of the knee or to further restrict hemlines ELEVEN PER ER cent indicate the hem hem- line hue restriction should be liberalized Seven per cent indicate it should be abandoned As to hemline lengths 13 per cent accept one inch or less a above bove the knee 33 per cent accept two inches 40 I percent per pcr percent cent accept three inches six per cent accept four inches and eight per per percent cent indicate the hemline should be left up to the tle girl and parents THE SURVEY also alo included questions the wishes of these sources should have considerable Influence influence ence in formulation of school policy polley It It was upon this premise that these surveys were conducted It was upon this premise and upon my personal conviction that conduct is influenced by appearance that the dress code at Vernal Vernal Ver nal Junior High School has been enforced enforced enforced en en- forced this year It is upon the results of these present studies that present and future policy polley will be based We We are proud of the students here at Vernal Jr High as a whole We think we have a for which we need make no apologies anywhere Our present and future actions will be the result of a genuine concern to maintain maintain main main- tain lain a learning environment which Is most conductive to
