Show Furniture refinishing school held Ily Ronda Harris Home Economist Extension On November 3 in the Uintah County Couty building some 85 men and women women attended a furniture refinishing school sponsored by the the Utah State University Extension Jerry Bruce guest demonstrator for toi Formby's showed a film entertained individual questions and discussed proper furniture care THE TilE FORMBY product is designed to remove varnish shellac or lacquer finishes without sanding or stripping The wood is then finished with lung tung oil the worlds world's oldest wood preservative The tung oil is hand rubbed into the wood as old craftsmen used to do It is ahard a ahard ahard hard durable sealer which does not darken with age After refinishing is completed completed com completed com com- it is necessary that the furniture be kept clean if the 4 finish is to last a long time Tl This s sis is true not only with the tung oil finish but whether the finish is varnish lacquer shellac paint or enamel If furniture presently has wax buildup Mr Bruce suggested suggest d to clean with a good furniture cleaner To prevent wood from cracking or c checking ecking and sometimes peeling replace natural wood oils with a pure lemon oil furniture furniture furniture fur fur- treatment IT WAS suggested by the Formby Company to remove Nt from frond furniture use a a soft cloth piece of old sheet undershirt or baby diaper dampen the cloth with water Squeeze it out Put a dob dab of toothpaste on the cloth and buff away the wl white te ring You should remove a white ring before it has time to get into the finish White rings are caused from using wax polish Buff well with dry soft cloth for lustre Those attending the school felt the program was excellent Jor for their needs A second demonstration will follow in the future dealing with the removal of f paint Due to the amount of area area the company covers however it will be sometime before Mr Bruce is back in the area Pamphlets on the Formby method are available at the Extension l office K |
