Show r selects Woman I of ot the year Freda S S. S Davis has been selected Woman of the Year by the Vernal Business and Professional Women's Club according to Alice B B. B White club president TillS THIS ANNUAL award is presented to a woman of the community whose service to her community assistance to other women in career advancement advancement ad ad- guidance to youth and young career women and educational efforts for women women ha have ve proved outstanding Mrs Davis' Davis career has been spent in home economics education She taught school for three years In Apache County Arizona two years in Granite District in Salt Lake County and eighteen years at Uintah High School Her position as as' as home economics instructor at Uintah included the responsibility responsibility responsibility of advisor to the Young Homemakers an adult program for women whose husbands husband's careers were in agriculture She also served as unofficial counsellor of the girls at Uintah who often orten turned to her for help and advice in times of str stress s. s IN ADDITION to her teaching in public schools Mrs Davis worked for the Farm Security Administration as la a Home Supervisor for seven years and andas as a Home Demonstration Agent for the Utah Extension Service for five years One of f her responsibilities was wall the H 4 r 1 A sn a FREDA DAVIS receives honor Clubs whose membership numbered five hundred during her tenure Mrs Davis served in many positions in the MIA of the Church and in 1971 began an eighteen month mission with her husband to the Virginia Virginia- North Carolina Mission She is a former member and past president of the Vernal Lady Lions and is a member of the Beaux Arts Club Freda S. S Davis was born to Robert Hobert H II and nd Roetta Bastian in Provo Utah one of seven children Her family moved to Vernal when she was five years old upon the the appointment appointment appointment ap ap- ap- ap of her father as principal of the Uintah Academy a position he held for twelve years She attended Central Elementary and Uintah Academy in Vernal Wilson Normal School in Washington D. D C. C Northern Arizona Teachers Teacher's College in Flagstaff and Brigham Young University ity in Provo where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1929 On June 1931 she married Harold E. E Davis of Vernal in the Salt Lake Temple They have four children Edward H H. H M Merlene Merkley and nd Catherine Harrison of Salt Lake City and Elaine New Castle California and fourteen grandchildren The Vernal Business and Professional Women's Club will honor Mrs Davis on on Thursday November 18 at a banquet at atthe the Lamplighter Inri |
