G Spencer Papier Mache has been around for lor a good many years with some evidences of molded fiber forms being found inE in E Egyptian tombs I For the next couple of oC weeks well we'll explore the possibilities of 01 some pre pre- molded fiber forms and hope that you can start seeing some fantastic possibilities for lor molding your own FOR TilE THE ladies ladles of 01 the community club in Dutch John this project is old hat But Dut hopefully you will enjoy beating inflation if II you need a afancy afancy fancy lancy lamp for not a fancy lancy price We have used two sizes of 01 papier mache pre molded ball baIl halves They come in many sizes but we use the largest here for the bottom approximately approximately approximately ap ap- ap- ap proximately 16 across and a 10 for the top Begin by marking the scallops points dips etc wished for lor the lamp edge and removing th the unwanted shapes with a razor blade Then cut about a four inch hole in the center bottom of both halves Glue the two halves together at this junction YOU ARE now ready to gesso the entire surface with a good old el poly brush These foam brushes brushes' are inexpensive cleanable soft sort and get the job done very quickly When the gesso is dry you are ready to cut fabric pieces to toMoo Mod Moo Podge onto the outside of 01 the lamp tucking the edges over the mache cut edges and gluing down as smoothly as possible Use your poly brush Use the Mod Podge generously as this does several jobs First it obviously is your adhesive for the fabric But it also provides a great water for the shade WATER you yousa sa say Well WeIl the Spencer house has been known to collect some dust on occasion and a waterproof surface is nice to toha ha have ve wh when n cleaning such from a alamp alamp lamp shade eh So s rate the fabric with Mod Podge as you work each piece into place Light weight fabrics will give you the easiest results Filmy fabrics however backfire as they permit the seams to show through the top seams and detracts from the lovely smoothness of this project For finishing touches you may want to paint the inside of or your shade a complimentary color to the fabric used and nd add adda a splash of fringe around the bottom About a yard and a half will do this job Either hang your shade or mount it on a table lamp and enjoy some fun decorating |
