C Penney Store today announced a gift of or music entitled A A Bicentennial Musical Celebration which will be presented to area high schools and colleges in late spring 1975 THE TILE CELEBRATION program part of the J. J C. C Penney Company's contribution contribution contribution contri contri- to the nations nation's Bicentennial was awarded a certificate te of official reco recognition from the American Revolution Bicentennial Administration during ceremonies held today in Washington D. D C. C The Celebration is the first program by a business corporation to be made an official official of of- part of the nations nation's Bicentennial festivities The Bicentennial Musical Celebration includes 70 minutes of historic American music spanning our years and 30 minutes of newly- newly commissioned contemporary works by American composers In announcing the gift Mr Haws said OUR PURPOSE is to make this music as widely available and as useful to as many people as possible It will be supplied to any other bands choral groups and orchestras that may ask for it Use will be entirely unrestricted and free of any performance charges Each school in the United States will receive a box of specially arranged sheet music enough for school music groups to equip a complete band chorus and orchestra Works for rock and stagehands are included as well The Celebration has been crea created ted in an effort to enrich the nations nation's Bicentennial observance observance vance with a reflection of American history through the music of its most representative composers THE TILE BAND nAND music is being programmed by Dr Richard Franko Goldman president of Peabody Institute Baltimore Maryland the orchestra music by Thor Johnson conductor of the Nashville Symphony and the choral music by Leonard DePaur of the Lincoln Center New York City The package is now being produced and it will be presented to the music groups at each of the nations nation's schools in the spring of 1975 enabling bands choral groups and orchestras to perform the celebration in whole or in part throughout the Bicentennial year and beyond |
