G Sloane named outstanding boxer in Idaho Eight amature boxers of ot the Uintah Basin were among contestants participating in the senior and jUl junior or Olympic boxing tournament held at Fort Hall hail Idaho Friday and Saturday Twenty three c teams from Idaho and Utah took part partin in this tournament TilE THE BASIN Boxing Club sponsored by the Ute Tribe Alcohol and Drug Program entered eight juniors and had four in the championship bouts Saturday night Of or these Ulese three were up runners-up and one a champion George Sloane 15 fought his way to the lb Ib championship and was selected Outstanding Boxer of the two-day two tourney According to Coach Ernie Martinez Sloane fought a near perfect fight and was deserving of the outstanding boxer award Due to an arm injury Eddie Martinez did not enter this s tournament but is scheduled along with Sloane Richard Burns and Gordon Howell to box in Salt Lake City December 14 in a Sub Santa benefit BBC up runners-up were Lucas Black who lost host a close decision to Frank Dennis Idaho Max TKO to Dave Kaiser Blackfoot Idaho and Sterling TKO to Ernie Chavez Blackfoot Friday night Leslie Moore BBC lost a decision to Rick Hick Knudsen Boise Idaho Andy Santio TKO to Chris Harbaugh Gooding Idaho George Sloane decision over Henry Martinez Ogden and Richard Burns lost losta a split decision to Kevin Brennan of Boise These bouts were judged by five judges using international rules According to Coach Martinez the Basin Boxing Club members members members mem mem- bers must keep their scholastic average up at school to be allowed to travel with the team |
