Show Juveniles Escape By Making Fire Firer Locking Up Dispatcher Dispatch r Three North Dakota juveniles escaped from the Uintah County jail Friday at pm p.m. by locking a Utah Highway Patrol radio dispatcher her in their cell THE JUVENILES two 15 year year old old girls and a 16 year old boy had been picked up and locked in separate cells especially designed for juveniles Th The two girls set a fire in a plastic waste paper basket and called for help Th The radio dispatcher next door came cameto cameto to investigate and opened the cell door THE DISPATCHER could not get the key o out edt C a and nd d l left it i in th the lock and d went vent inside the cell filled with smoke to in in The girls who were hilding behind be hind a shower c curtain rushed out shut the door and locked the dispatcher inside in inside side according to reports The girls then opened the adjacent cell with their 16 year year old old companion and the three left the county building locking the outside door behind them They drove off ff in their car which was parked in the parking lot WHEN HELP came from a Vernal City Police officer who had been previously pre pre- previously previously pre pre- radioed the outside door was locked and had to be opened When the radio dispatcher was finally released from the cell he w was s almost overcome with smoke reported Joe Hatch jailer who had been away away for a few minutes during the jail escape The teenagers were finally stopped near Dinosaur Colorado by Colorado Deputy Sheriff Horton who had to shoot a hole in the gas tank and wait for forthe forthe forthe the vehicle to run out of gas to overtake them THE THREE were held in Colorado until their parents came and picked them up according to Uintah County Sheriffs Sheriff's office reports |
