Show Basin Soil Conservation District Gives Annual Report The Uintah Basin Soil Conservation District recently completed their annual report for Cor 1971 reports Charles chairman of oC the Board of oC Supervisors This report shows the district has done much to promote and encourage conservation conservation conservation conser conser- in the thu Uintah Basin Some of oC the conservation practices completed by dis cooperators are BRUSH CONTROL acres land leveling acres irrigation pipelines LF ditch and canal lining Ll LP LF structures for Cor water control each pipelines for Cor LF tile drain LF multipurpose multi pur pose ponds 8 each range seeding acres field and hayland mgt acres and range proper use acres These activities were carried out with technical from and some of these the projects received cost sharing through the Rural Environmental Assistance Assistance Assis tance Program DURING 1971 the Soil Conservation Service through a memorandum of oC understanding understanding un with the Uintah Basin Soil Conservation District provided technical assistance to land owners owners of whom have completed conservation tices Sixty-nine Sixty farmers and ranchers were assisted in planning and application application tion of conservation practices There are arenow arenow arenow now farmers who are arc cooperators with the district program Goodyear contest winners this year it r the Uintah Basin were Lee and Lloyd Nelson who have an outstanding operation operation oper in Duchesne County Lloyd attended attend ed cd the State Stale Association Convention Awards banquet and accepted walnut and bronze plaques for both he and Lee THE SCHOOL district in both Uintah and Duchesne Counties are placing Conservation Conservation Con Education material In the schools Uintah School District was very Impressed with the color information booklets published by the Soil Conservation Conser Society of oC America and plans to incorporate them Into the science cur cur- as well as placing a number of oC copies in each of oC the libraries throughout through out the district The Duchesne School District will also take this approach The Board is providing color booklets to the two school districts The Bank of Vernal and aid the Vernal Rod and Gun Club participated par in purchasing these booklets Corthe for Cor forthe forthe the school districts DURING 1971 there has been a marked mark mark- ed cd improvement throughout the district in pasture management More and m more re farmers are realizing the profitability of oC intensively managed pastures There should be a continued acceleration of this practice in the future Irrigation water management continues to be of prime concern to the district and will continue to be so in the future This year there has been considerable advancements made in better irrigation water control Measuring devices control control con con- structures regulating reservoirs and improved irrigating techniques are improving irrigation water utilization I ITH TH THERE ERE HAS been an increasing interest interest in in- terest shown in irrigation pipelines and sprinkler systems with a number being installed this year and many more systems systems being considered for installation Brush control continues to be an effective effective ef eC practice on range units More than acres acres were sprayed with 4 2 D esther in 1971 |
