Miami its it's back to work Con Congress ress will pitk up where it left off a month ago to try and complete business for the loth Congress Its It's doubtful Congress can really do much before the is nothing but a memory Sen ate Majority Loader Mike Mansfield of Montana said Con Con- Congress gross gress might celebrate Christ mae mas this year hard at work in the Capitol A House leader said Congress might recess again for the elections and then com come back for the remaining days In November and Decem her ber But most Congressmen be be- be behove hove lIeve that when Congress gets to business this week welk it will be a month to a month month- half a of work and that's It And If you can judge this years year's session to with past extra sessions not much can be hoped for In past President President- Presidential ial election years there have been five extra extra sessions called i after the National Conventions None really accomplished much The last extra session in a Presidential year was four years ago when Congress finally adjourned October 3 1964 Out of the hundreds of bills before the two chambers the Pro Pre signed but 15 major bills during the entire year and Congress itself left 13 major bills to virtually die bee because a use of no action taken Of course its it's not really as bleak as one might think For instance out of the Con Con- Congress gress its les The Crime Bill Is a start Natu ally It wont won't satisfy ever everyone on or solve all the pro but It is a beginning Our low income families in inthe inthe the nation are now being given the opportunity to buy housing with low interest rates thanks to the Housing and Urban Dev Act Other legislation includes the Truth In Lending Act National School Lunch Program and unfortunately the surtax I Isay I Isay say unfortunately be be- be because cause nobody wants to pay any higher taxes then we presently do but if the surtax had not been imposed the fiscal pro of the country would be much greater than they pre pre pre- presently are But what about the remain remain- log ing days left In the Nat Nat- too much mitch legislation and not enough time tinie are the main problems Some of of facilities for the prevention and treatment of al al- al alcoholism 5 A bill which would facil facil- facil facilitate naturalization ure of aliens serving sel In the US Armed Forces This would solve problems of the type which occurred in Salt ake City not too long ago when a aboy aboy boy who served In the Armed Forces was denied citizenship and was almost deported from from this country 6 Legislation providing for protection of public health Irons from radiation from elec dee Ironic products such as asI TV sets I 7 Legislation which would Increase penalties for illegal manufacture and traffic of LSD and other dangerous drugs I 8 The Firearms Control Act should bring forth another donnybrook in the Senate as asit asit it did In the House Not too many members are all enthus enthus-
