Show Vernal Native Receives Utah Heritage Award Vera Calder Stratford of California a former resident was presented the coveted Her IIer- Award by President Mary Quist of the California Utah California Utah Wo Wo- Women's mens men's Club Chub at a luncheon held recently In the Century Hotel in Beverly onus Florence Heritage Awards chairman narrated a description of the utah heritage of Mrs Stratford including her pioneer heritage which began with her grandmothers grandmother's cross cross- crossing crossIng ing the plains years ago MRS STRATFORD'S own life began in Vernal She was a daughter of Hyrum Bennion and Agnes Ellen Hamilton Calder She grew up in Vernal and re- re reI I her early schooling here She attended Brigham Young University and grad glad from the Utah State Un Uni- Uni in 1929 with a major in home economics She taught school in Vernal SH SHE E I IS S the wife of Bishop Richard C Stratford and mother of five children Marilyn and Richard Los Angeles Larry Palo Alto Nancy Cal Cook who is traveling in Europe and Lynn who will graduate from the Brigham Young University in June She has five grandchildren The former has been active in all church faries and a leader in community Ity services and clubs A book bookis bookis is being written on her life with the first chapter Sally using her nickname by which she is called THE BOOK is still being written with Mrs Stratford contributing to its pages When Mrs Stratford was pre rented the Heritage Award she accepted with these words When I have been given so much I will give |
