Show r l lr MRS EDYTHE woman of the month Woman of the Month to be Feted by The Vernal Business and Pro Pro- Professional Professional women have chosen Mrs Edythe to receive their Woman of the Month award for November Her extensIve community work In church and andIn andin In civic groups has been a great cultural benefit to the area MRS was born Ed Ed- Ed Edythe Bates In Vernal She was educated here and In Salt Lake City She attended the University Ity of Utah and the University of California Southern branch and then came back here to teach school for six years During this period she married Dr Loyd They have one son Dr John pro Vernal dentist I When teachers were scarce during the war years Mrs II taught or served as asI I substitute for ten years For thirty years she has taught In the Relief Society She has been a stake leader in the social science department but buther buther her true love has been teaching the literature lessons THE RED CROSS has been her favorite charitable activity and down through the years she has been closely associated with it it She taught first aId classes for many years She is now chairman of nursing services In inVernal Vernal When her son was in school she was active in PTA and band mothers organizations Since the organization of the American LegIon Auxiliary In 1920 she has been very active with that group She is a past president and now serves as legislative chairman For five years since 1961 she has ser ved as a at Girls State and has recently been named on the board of directors SHE IS active in precinct pol and is a past president of the Federated Women's Republican Republican Club Mrs has been in in- in in music ever since she sheI I played piano and sang during her school years She now serves as president of the Community Concert Ass and president of the Uintah Music Society which was organized for the purpose of purchasing a Concert Grand piano for the hIgh school The entire community has hasI I profited from her devoted ser ser- service I Ivice I vice in promoting musical actS act In 1952 under the inspIration of Mrs Sara Perry she began her study of art which became her main hobby CURRENTLY a showing of her paintings is on display at atthe atthe the Little Gallery of Arts Mrs was active in establishing the Little Gallery of Art in Vernal and is now secre tart tary hostess chairman She has taught summer 4 H classes in inArt inArt Art When asked what motivated her to involve herself so com com- completely in the cultural develop develop- development ment of Vernal Mrs said I like to do things I con skier sider worthwhile It gives me a sense of fulfillment and to contribute to the cultural development of our ourtown ourtown town |
