Show VERNAL expressions el our public library by th the reverend richard E lundberg Lund brg certainly an essential quality of the educated man or woman Is the ability to use a library it Is essential for tho the simple reason that it takes a food good deal oi of library use to glean an education whether you a are e the formally educated person or the BO so called self made man there Is need and real need for tho the library however the library Is not tor for education alone there la is great pleasure in books there ere Is certainly hardly a person who can read that has not thrilled to the unfolding of an exciting mystery or adventure story who has not been enthralled er by the unfolding folden of a great and worthwhile life biography or autobiography there Is s no other place where one can have so much for such a small amount of money education pleasure travel adventure all can be had at W a public library however the only difficulty in vernal is that there Is really no public library at aall only there Is a place where books are stored I 1 certainly it behooves i us the citizens of this city to provide some place where not only ourselves can go but a place where our r children can go to gain ar all the wonders that a library can offer A library should be it ha haven ven a quiet place where one can not only select the reading material of interest but can sit down in comfort and solitude and enjoy the reading material the library is a place set apart as a center of knowledge tor for the public to use and enjoy A library Is a place in the community where one can find a storehouse of wisdom and while the use of the library jib certainly does not assure asure wisdom it does just as certainly make ke it more possible elble for wisdom Is better than rubles and all the things s that t may be desired are not to be compared to io it by me kings reign and prices decree justice by me prices rule and nobles even all the judges of the earth proverbs 8 books are our link with the wisdom of the ages with the reading and writing of books we would be a poor people indeed we know of course that without this written record mere there could be no civilization as we know it every gift we give to those who follow us is given through the written word in books and so our greatest inheritance from the past is knowledge contained in the written word every community ought to have a place that is a depository 0 ry of this knowledge a place where we can deposit for posterity i our history the story that we arel living now we should have a place in vernal where the story of the settlement of his basin can be kept and read and reread re rl read by us and those that shall shan follow after us 1 we have many public buildings to be proud of in this community a new school a beautiful hospital many lovely churches a state museum and yet we have no library that is worthy of the name |
