Show uintah high school best asset the last year has witnessed a worthy change in our school of sec andary grade the L D S church which so nobly financed the uintah academy in our midst while ta wo were struggling with other problems in pioneering this great valley has seen fit to discontinue its support because of its recent chance change of policy c y in supporting high schools we wish to commend the church in the worthy way ay in which it pioneered education in this great state of ours it has now accomplished its purpose and now that we are able to stand alone in things educationally we should assume the responsibility and keep the high standard which has been set our uintah high school now belongs to us it is being supported by our means and administered by our choice its aim is to co in making our boys and girls abe future good citizens that we wo should have them be if we are interested in their welfare we must help determine what their goal in citizenship will be the work offered at our school Is of standard high school grade and is equivalent to any in the state 1 our boys are crowding tho the shops to their capacity it is to desirable that they should do this because of ot the demand which Is being made for highly trained men in the different crafts and trades it more boys are not trained in inthis this line according to statistics there will be a great shortage ot skilled laborers in the next ten years and wages will soar around the 20 per day mark for carpenters we are preparing for this day our girls are crowding the home economics department and aro are receiving very valuable instruction in the art of cooking and dress making and mill millinery mothers would do well to avail themselves ot of the privilege of learning to sow sew and mako make their own bats bet let us make it 16 a school for all some of our students are leaving vernal for other places to secure high school training the situation la Is comparable to the man who left his own farm and wont to africa to find diamonds when he returned he found much to his sorrow that the richest diamond mine in the world was found on his farm after he had left our school Is here to serve serre us shall we dig for our own diamonds or shall we seek them elsewhere |
