Show THE WOOL CLIP pour four intermountain inter mountain states produce more than pounds of average quality four intermountain inter mountain states utah idaho montana luid wyoming produced this year pounds of wool according to a recent estimate made at the office of the state board of sheep commissioners at salt lake the estimate for each state is as follows fol lowa utah pounds idaho pounds montana pounds wyoming pounds smaller clip than the other states mentioned was due to the fact that the state is more thickly settled than the other states which has result ed ad in turning vast areas of grazing lands into farms of the pounds in utah linth county produced about th wool buyers have made the state ment that the clip this year is far inferior to the clip of last year but sheep men declare that such is not the case the wool may have been a litow shorter than usual haual in the southern p ayt t of the state but it is of natt at heastan lea stan t an average quality elsewhere but very little of the wool sent east zy y utah growers has been sold and probably will not be for some time to come as the sheep men are waiting for still higher prices As was reported last week some of the uintah county men have sold their wool for as high as all thirteen and three quarter cents those who are holding on believe that they will soon be able to sell cell for sixteen to eighteen conta cents the latest information from boston is ia that the prices are getting better all the while in a recent issue the salt lake tribune speaking of general wool conditions dit ions has this to say may while prices have not at any time during the season run nearly as high as those thor paid last year growers are taking a good profit nevertheless 1 due largely to the fact that range I 1 losses during the last winter were comparative light and the general average of the lamb iamb crop this spring has been exceptionally good the general quality of utah wools seem to have been not so good as in former years owing to the failure of early rains the lack of which prevented the wools attaining the long staple for which they have been marked in past seasons weather conditions in eastern idaho and western wyoming seem to have been much more favorable and this condition in connection with the fact that shearing was not commenced in those sections until sometime after shearing in utah was over gave those wools a much better growth and netted ithe the triangle growers an average price of several cents better than utah growers obtained that western buyers who actively entered the market when wool seemed to have little or no market value have been amply rewarded for their nerve and judgment is ia well illustrated by the statement of mark harris to the effect that his firm had secured more than ten million pounds of the season clip which although bought at top market prices will net a handsome profit if eastern market conditions continue to improve aaa gm they now give evidence of u doing among the many large and well known clips that went to the st louis market are those of the heber land live stock co enright brothers joe smith ed callister and J C and dan mackey holt brothers N S neilson C S carter fred jensen and john saeley |
