Show LIKES TUIE THE DRAW now available in the reservoir rund fund in tile the state of utah wm D candland member of the state board of land commissioners has been in vernal this week viewing selections of state land tuesday in company with county commissioner and the editor of tl 0 e vernal express he made a trip up abbley canyon as far as aa the gorge with the jobje object A of looking at the proposed reservoir bites sites although ho admitted there were ideal reservoir sites in ashley cans cannon on he thought the construction of a dam in ashley creek too big a proposition post tion for the state the draw drav was next visited and this he con sideres a good feasible proposition and one that the state board could handle ile he says the state now has in the reservoir fund and the board would like and are anxious to build rosar and re reclaim clairn a portion of the now arid and lands of the state mr candland thinks this is one of the best valleys of the state and after seeing ane thousands thoua anda of acres of land laying idle both in the valley and to the south and east cast of ashley creek he believes a reservoir here to store the flood water a good proposition wednesday and thursday he went on diamond mountain to see the land ap plied for by john where re he is trying dry farming and other tracts of grazing land lie ile thinks the plateau on diamond mountain a first class dry farming section he left for salt lake again friday to be present at a meeting of the board tuesday and said he would bring the reservoir question up at that time to get the matter before the board in the proper way he said there should be a report giving data such as the number of acres acrea that could be irrigated and the he area of the reservoir site showing the heights length and num ber of acres covered by and depth of water the data mr candland wants can not be obtained without a survey what site are we going to do about it there is ia no board of trade or commercial nier cial club to take the matter up and furnish the report and yet all will admit it should be made and at once think what it would mean to vernal and an uintah county if the land east of ashley creek and on the south of this valley nalley was all brought under cultivation the population of the valley mould vi be nearly doubled the land board has two other obber reservoir apropo bivions under consideration now which will consume at least 15 oooo of the fund the state sells the landane land and water to settlers on the same basis that land isnow 13 now sold ten years time with ten per cent paid each year uintah county count has the land the reservoir site and the surplus flood water to fill it the state has the money to build the reservoir and is anxious to do so BO now what is 13 lacking simply to get together and have an able report presented to the board which in turn will appoint a committee to make further estimates and report repart and then do t ie work |
