Show Board sets upland game hunting seasons As a result of a proclamation adopted this week by the Utah Wildlife Board during their meeting in Vernal, there will be a few changes in the upland game hunting season for 1983 and 1984. The board followed a new Division . of Wildlife Resources policy and set the season for two years. Utah's pheasant season will open Nov. 5 this season and will run through Nov. 13 in most parts of the state with a daily limit of two roosters and a possession limit of four. The season will run through Nov. 20 in Duchesne and Uintah Counties, and through Dec. 4 on all state and federal lands in Carbon, Duchesne, Emery, Grand, Juab. San Juan, Sanpete, Tooele and Uintah Counties, the portion por-tion of Wayne County which lies east of Capital Reef National Park and the Bear River National Wildlife Refuge. The sage grouse season opens Sept. 17 and runs through Sept. 23 in Daggett and Uintah Counties and north of U.S. 40 in Duchesne County as well as the Currant Creek Drainage in Wasatch County and a small portion of Box Elder County. The limit in these areas is two daily or four in possession. The season will be from Sept. 17 through Sept. 25 in Beaver, Garfield, Iron, Kane, Millard, Piute, Sevier and Wayne counties with limits of three birds daily or six in possession. Another sage grouse season, Sept. 17 through Sept. 23, is scheduled in Cache, Morgan, Rich, Summit, Weber and a portion of Wasatch and Box Elder counties with limits of one bird daily and two in possession. The forest grouse season will run from Sept. 17 to Nov. 30 statewide with a limit of four birds daily or eight in possession. Hunters who wish to pursue ptarmigan ptar-migan in the Painter Basin areas of the High Uintas Primitive Area will do so from Sept. 10 to Oct. 18 with a limit of four birds daily and four in possession. Chuckar season will be from Sept. 17 to Sept. 19 with limits of five birds daily dai-ly and 10 in possession statewide, except ex-cept in Cache. Morgan, Rich, Sanpete, Summit counties, where the season will run through Nov. 30. Chukar hunting hun-ting is closed in Daggett, Duchesne and Uintah counties as well as Antelope Island. The basic Hungarian partridge season will run from Sept. 17 to Jan. 31, except in Davis, Morgan, Tooele, Chache, Weber, Rich and Summit counties and portion of Box Elder, Salt Lake, Utah and Juab counties where it will close Nov. 30. Limits are five daily and 10 in possession. The cottontail rabbit season will run from Sept. 17 to Jan. 31 with limits of 10 daily and 20 in possession statewide except in Cache, Davis, Morgan, Rich, Summit, Weber and a portion of Box Elder County, where the season is the same but the limit is five daily and 10 in possession. The snowshoe hare season runs from Sept. 17 through Jan. 31 with a limit of five daily and 10 in possession. This year's dove season will run from Sept. 1 through Sept. 30 with no changes from a year ago. The fall turkey season is from Sept. 17 to Oct. 2 with a a season limit of one turkey. In other action, the board announced announc-ed it would consider the trout stamp for the 1984 fishing season at its Aug. 24 meeting at 7 p.m. in Salt Lake city. It also closed Bear Top Mountain in Daggett County to all types of hunting due to the recent transplant of Rocky Mountain sheep. |
