The evaluation was part of the accreditation ac-creditation of the school which occurs every 10 years. The visiting team members, chosen by the Utah Office of Education, as "experts in their fields," will evaluate the programs pro-grams at the school and make commendations commen-dations or recommendations. "It's important that the school meet certain standards essential to accreditation," accredita-tion," said Joyce Hansen, president of the Northwestern Accreditation Association. Committee members consulted with teachers, students, counselors, librarians and administration to check information to compile a written report and to check a self-evaluation of each department. "We're not here to evaluate individual teachers, but to make recommendations concerning programs," Mrs. Hansen said. Special programs which the visiting Continued on page 4 High school... Evaluations from each department will be placed in a single volumn which will be completed in about two weeks, said Superintendent Phil Ellis, Uintah School District. The teams met with members of the school department, Tuesday afternoon, to discuss their commendations and recommendations. "We see this as an opportunity to improve im-prove the education at the school," said Marlin Johnson, secondary education director, Uintah School District. Mrs. Hansen said the accreditation process actually involves three phases: first a self -evaluation is completed by the department heads, second, outside educators visit the school and third, implementation im-plementation of the recommendations. Superintendent Ellis said that even though the bond election for a new high school passed, "We are still concerned about the education at this facility." The new high school is expected to be completed com-pleted in 1986. Recommendations of the visiting team are open for public review, Ellis said. |
