Show Gary Weight is new Uintah hoop coach Gary Weight has been selected as the new head basketball coach at Uintah High School for the 1981-82 season. Weight will replace Pete Rencher who resigned at the end of the 1980-81 school year. Weight is a 1972 graduate of Payson High School and was graduated from BYU in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science Degree and Secondary Teaching Certificate in physical education with a minor in health education and driver safety education. The 6'4", 198 pound Weight has been the head basketball coach at Carbon High School in Price during the 1979-80 and 1980-81 school years. Carbon tied for second place in the southern division of Region 6 and five of the Region 6 teams played in the final night of the 1981 state tournament. Carbon's 1981 team ended up with one of its best records in years. He also coached football at Carbon. Weight was a teacher coach at North Davis Junior High in Clearfield from 1977 to 1979. He coached basketball, football, track and intramurals and assisted and scouted for Craig Hansen, head coach at Clearfield High School. Weight did his student teaching at Payson High School in the winter of 1976 and was a student assistant for the varsity basketball coach. While at Brigham Young University Weight lettered in football and track and was a momlx-r of the junior varsity basketball team. Weight lettered in football, basketball and track at Payson High School He was a member of the BYl' football team which was the 1974 WAC champs and took part in the Fiesta Howl Weight was Utah's Class 3A most valuable player in basketball w hile at Payson High School and was a basketball All-American honorable mention He w as a two-year all stater in football and basketball and competed in the state track meet three years. Weight's philosophy of organization of his basketball program is: "There is no magic formula to success. The only sure route is work, work. work.
