Show State, local taxes up U.S. residents paid a total of $211.2 billion in state and local taxes in 1979, a total of $12.9 billion or 6.5 per cent more than in 1978, the U.S. Census Bureau reported recently. The $211.2 billion included taxes on property, general sales and gross receipts, motor fuel, tobacco, alcoholic beverages, individual in-dividual income, corporate net income and motor vehicle and operators' licenses. Increases in state taxes accounted ac-counted for $11.1 billion of the S 1 2.9 billion increase, the Bureau said. State and local taxes on individual in-dividual income increased 9.3 per cent from S35.5 billion to $38.8 billion. Sales taxes rose from $44.2 billion to S49.2 billion. |
