Show S S 'S S 'S k r t A a S t S S 'S S 4 VERNAL Progressive Arts School Located In Bolivia the school schoolhouses schoolhouses houses 60 students of the Indian Tribe and was funded by the Progressive Arts Club of Vernal Native craftsmen built the school Progressive Arts Club builds school in Bolivia In 74 1973 Progressive Arts Club of Vernal was made District Chairman of International International International In In- Affairs and received the challenge from the State Stale Federation to carry out a full program with another country They met that challenge and andon on April 2 1977 the Vernal Progressive Arts School was dedicated at Bolivia The School houses 60 students of the Indian Tribe who furnished the labor themselves for windows casings doors and materials was supplied by bythe bythe bythe the local club through projects of bake sales and quilt making Some Same personal donations were also included and the entire amount was turned over to the Education Chairman Ted Wilson in Salt Lake City in July in 1974 THE TIIE TilE PROGRESSIVE Arts Arts' Club during the project year was under the direction of Marva Lent president with Oris Pope as chairman and Elouise turner assisting Mrs Pope wrote a letter to Dr Bill Farnsworth a former county agent of Uintah County Dr Farnsworth reported the need for schools in Bolivia and explained the Utah-Bolivia Utah partners program for building them Approximately 60 schools have been constructed with funds funds funds' from schools and organizations in in Utah All details are taken care of by volunteers working in Bolivia for the government In June of 1976 Mrs Turner visited Bol with Bolivia via with the goal of visiting the school first hand and to deliver supplies that were were sent by the club such as crayons pencils chalk and erasers but was unable to reach the area area which is 90 dirt road miles north of LaPaz The supplies were conveyed by a volunteer of the Pa Partners Partner's program THE SCHOOL is located in a village of a population of between between between bet bet- and natives and is in a location with three other buildings that make up their community center There are areno areno areno no houses from the center enter indicating that all the people have to walk a number of miles to use the facilities The students walk between yeen one and two miles each way to school revealed Mrs Turner they have grades kindergarten kindergarten kin kin- through fifth grades with two native teacher leacher The Progressive Arts received a copy of the program of the schools school's dedication along with a number of pictures The program carried the seal of the Administrator of Education of I Bolivia and is an original done by the school Mrs Turner said the club was very pleased to find that all the money they had sent went totally to forward the project that itself all persons con con- corned donated donated their their time tithe wholly In addition to their labor the natives made the adobe brick and etc and the money was used exclusively for windows doors roofing casing and whatever else was needed to be purchased Club members have voted to furnish money for school supplies each year so that the students have materials to work with |
