Show t y c 3 c lIi d By Dr Wayne Wayne Reid Superintendent Are you an accessory to the drug scene Many problems come across my desk every day Some are minor others of oC major ron eon sequence The problem that chewed its way into my office toda today however ate at my in- in sides One of our students had been referred by our administrators administrators administrators ad ad- to the police for possession of marijuana TilE THE PRO PROBLEM LE I may seem minor to some but to me it was of major importance How can our young people in broad daylight in the vision of many citizens who passed by become so bold Until repealed by legislation decree and I hope I never live to see this happen possession of marijuana is against the law The school system can use your help in stamping out such aggressive violations of the law in and around our campuses Please call your local school administration administration administration ad ad- ministration office if you see anything which may give you reason to suspect such things may be going on I am certain our excellent police force could utilize your assistance also We attempt in our schools' schools health classes physiology classes etc to instruct our youth away from such such- jarring insecurities as the drug scene Education alone however is insufficient unless we mean the education on of our entire com corn We must all band together to lick this trus monster that creeps into our homes and schools and town and community community community com com- as a robber and a robber it most assuredly is ie i.e. a robber of self decency pride ambition and health TilE THE USE OF DRUGS most often can begin in the home with the youths youth's taking too much aspirin or indulging in alcohol Generally among peers it begins as a dare In this case peers provide them and advertisements advertisements ad ad- induce them Educators have a good amount of research to indicate that scare tactics are no good and do donot donot donot not work with this generation of students It has been likewise documented that a young person generally wont won't take drugs unless he is lacking in something pointing out the need for student involvement in something important to him at school or church or at home The four basic ingredients to help educators lick the problem are 1 have a sympathetic attitude about the problems the youth face and the many temptations which pull upon him 2 information about the drugs must be factual honest revealing and effective 3 the teacher must be a cr credible dible source himself and 4 the person must be able to relate effectively with the student in some way Most students who are foolish enough to take any type of drugs generally arent aren't in interested interested interested in- in in school They actually actually actually ac ac- ac- ac want the administrator to expel them This seems to be one way for this kid to rebel Many drug offenders in the teenage years say that they feel their parents treat them as if they were still babies and wont won't really listen to their problems Parents and I am one also simply need to take more time with their children and try to tomake tomake tomake make some of our related decisions wiser ones I know that it becomes frustrating at times for or all parents We can protect our youngsters against small pox via an We know the virus and how to take care of it The virus o of drug addiction is like an octopus which cant can't be strapped down Schools need to be prepared to meet these challenges but so must all members of our community At school we need to ask ourselves if iC we are offering offering of of- fering Cring significant didactic Information information information in In- formation to the drug problem Are we doing enough to identify the disturbed youngster HOW CAN YOU help Look carefully at your own youngsters A drug user has depression tension suffers from boredom experiences much emotional stress Even if this child is not on drugs he needs your help desperately also They may have an aggressive behavior yet display a run-down run appearance physically Most drugs dilate the eyes We must all become humanitarians Were We're the first line of defense for the time first-time Yet when we see problems of such nature it is the Attorney Generals General's ruling that if we fail faillo to report it to the proper authorities we may be bean bean bean an accessory More Importantly importantly importantly im Im- im- im we must all strive to assist our police department sheriffs sheriff's department juvenile court officers etc in ridding ourselves of this affront to our beautiful community |
