Show Administrative salaries ratified The Uintah District School Board ratified the administrative administrative ad ad- negotiations settlement at their monthly bi-monthly board meeting held Tuesday July 12 at the district office A percent increase was granted to all administrative staff except the Superintendent Accountant Director of Maintenance and the School Lunch Director of which a 7 percent increase was gr granted The treasurers treasurer's salary was increased perc percent nt VERNAL CITY Police Chief Jonathan Jones presented his ideas for a crime prevention campaign that has begun in the city to include the school system this fall He proposed that the police department go into the elementary junior high and high schools with a variety of presentations aimed at preventing crime He will address the school schoolchildren schoolchildren schoolchildren children on three topics drugs vandalism and property security He stated that the programs that will be presented will vary depending on the age and grade of the students Chief Jones also spoke on safety crossings and the possibilities of painting zebra stripe crosswalks around the elementary schools and placing crossing guards at access points to Ashley and Central schools He also recommended that a flashing light be placed at Highway 40 near the A and W drive in The board agreed to hold over the frame A-frame house for further repairs before re-opening re the bidding on it No bids were received due to several mistakes within the structure therefore it was decided to allow the school construction class to correct all mistakes as soon as possible during the fall quarter before being placed on the bidding market A presentation was made to the board by Dr Bert Gividen and Mr Ted Taylor regarding a dance workshop which they and two teachers attended in The workshop they attended was in correlation with the Artists in the Schools program which is slated to open in September TWO TIVO DANCE MOVEMENT specialists and the Ririe Woodbury Company will be in inthe inthe inthe the District for a total of six weeks during the 78 1977 school year The week one workshop provided a complete understanding understanding understanding un un- un- un to the four district as to the function and philosophy of dance movement in an academic environment The board also adopted a policy that will enable the Uintah School District to forward forward for for- ward educational records on request to a school in which a student seeks or intends to enroll No consent is required for release of categories A B and C of the pupil records to school officials including including- tea teachers ners counselors other ther pupil personnel specialists or administrators administrators' who have a legitimate educational interest in examining the information The meeting capped off with a presentation by Mr Dan Good regarding the district English curriculum committee recommendations Included within these recommendations are 1 All professional staff be required to pass a proficiency test in English grammar spelling and cursive penmanship 2 A standard cursive to be required of all students after it is first introduced in elementary school 3 Student assignments be spot checked by principals or and-or department heads for fora a standard cursive b spelling errors corrected by teachers c grammatical errors corrected by teachers and d general neatness 4 Improvement in the quality of reading material and literature 5 A certain number of classical books should be read a year 6 Students should be required to memorize good poetry The board voiced their opinion that a course of action should proceed along this concept however it shouldn't be done in a hasty manner The board felt several of these concepts possibly may be introduced introduced introduced in in- this coming school year |
