Show iov tr F School Board support shown sham at board meeting o I It u ie e number of people tit y Hn u IK I large for Cor the summer k r turned out for the rf ti h lr School District School rd meeting held August 25 with villi the m majority of oC those in aj voicing their support supt sup sup- t 0 port of the board IT ir I r WAS FELT that thai the large t turnout turn was a direct result of the th television coverage that Channel 4 in Salt Lake City gave to the problems facing the J school board l Following the completion of r the Preliminary Activities In r which a swimming pool report f. f was presented by John and bid openings on onit it Its I ii surplus property were read read and awarded Pi President Aycock opened up the meeting to the public giving the cit citizens in attendance the opportunity opportunity op- op to lo ask questions The questions presented to the board hoard by the citizenry were fairly specific in nature the majority of them regarding the allegations by a local citizens citizen's group charging the board with malfeasance in office and misuse of public funds The majority in attendance seemed to be there thre to substantiate their own good feelings and opinions of oC the board A few however came ame away with a different attitude altitude from what they had before Those few felt they had been given honest and straightforward answers' answers feeling in fact surprised that thai they had ONE 1 QUESTION Ul and answer gave an indication to lo what may come in the future Tom Snyder inquired into the possibilities of policy changes in the future and if they would s be placed in writing President Aycock answered affirmatively that thai the board is currently considering several se policies that may be changed in the future Aycock assured the crowd that thai they would writ tw put in writing Dm ing the preliminary ac acs activities bids surplus property were opened and awarded to lo the highest bidders Mr Woody Searle was awarded the bid for tor 2600 on the International tractor model Mr Don Nagle was awarded the bid on a Caterpillar Model 11 for The Case two-tractor two bid was awarded to Mr Hank Shelton Shellon for The district administrators gave a report to the b board ard reviewing the Administrators Administrator's Workshop held recently in Midway It was generally felt feit among the administrators that the distance from home was a contributing factor in having the productive workshop that was held Mrs Rhoda DeVed felt fell the lack of interruptions enabled them to concentrate on the tasks at hand Paul felt they could become acquainted with each other as individuals The administrators listed their top c concerns with academic achievement being foremost in their minds Other concerns include Attendance and discipline of pupils and staff building program authority public relations and TilE THE PRINCIPALS and staff members recommended that a study group be be formed of all secondary school principals the assistant superintendent of secondary education members of the principals advisory committees and the three student body presidents of the secondary schools The group will be asked to lo investigate the need feasibility and results of a closed campus and furnish a review of their progress on a quarterly basis The 1 he board of education will be furnished with the results of their finds during the 78 1977 school year Additionally the sociology class at the high school will distribute a survey to the parents regarding the closed campus concept |
