Show SUNDAY 10 a.m. Opening exercises. Elder Jos. L. Townsend spoke of the necessity of revelation, of each individual being guided by it, and of its influence among the children of men in past ages, as recorded in the Bible. President John Morgan stated in his remarks that principles of truth advanced often come in contact with the ideas of the world. the belief or unbelief of the truth has no effect upon it. Singing. Benediction by Elder I. E. Carlisle. 2 p.m. Opening exercises. The General Authorities of the Church were presented and sustained as at the last general Conference, also Jno. Morgan as President of the Southern States Mission, Wm. Asper President of the Virginia Conference, Jos. L. Townsend, clerk of the Conference: Howard Coray, Jesse M. Smith, Samuel Porter, Jos. A. Smith, J. E. Carlisle and S. W. Bean as travelling Elders were presented and sustained. Elder Jno. Morgan read from the fourth chapter of Ephesians. He related how the nations had fallen away from the truth showing plainly that God's laws had been transgressed, that many prophecies had been fulfilled, and that many would still be fulfilled. He showed that as the Saints were overcome a restoration had taken place and ?? a powerful testimony to the truth of the Gospel. Prest. Asper, in a few words bore testimony to the truth and thanked the Saints and their for their kindness on all occasions. The Conference was adjourned sine die. Singing. Benediction by Prest. Wm. Asper. Thus ended a profitable and interesting time. On Sunday there were estimated to be over three hundred present. Saints and friends furnished provisions and a basket dinner was enjoyed. A kind and hospitable feeling prevailed. The speaking was spiritual and fraught with instructions of importance to the human family. On Monday a priesthood meeting of the missionaries was held and much good instruction given and received. |
