Show ANOTHER INSTANCE OF PETTY THIEVERY. And still we continue to hear of the doings of light-fingered gentry who have found their way among us. Some days ago a Smithfield boy who was coming down Logan canyon allowed a tramp to ride in his wagon. The latter was a youth in his teens. On the way, a sack of grain was lost from the wagon, and the loss was not discovered until some distance had been traversed. The tramp volunteered to take one of the horses and go back after the lost grain sack. This was agreed to, and the boy loaned the other his coat to wear. In the coat was a pocket book, which contained an order on the U. O. The tramp extracted the order from the pocket-book and returned the latter with the coat to the boy. It was some time before the boy discovered his loss. A strange young man is known to have made attempts on the street last Saturday, to sell an order on the U. O. and the officers have been looking for him. |
