A few days since Brother Andrew McComb of Trenton called upon us with the pleasing intelligence that a post office had been established at Trenton with himself as postmaster. Heretofore the good people of Trenton have endured a great amount of inconvenience on account of mail irregularities and uncertainties, but we trust such annoyance is over. Mail for that settlement should be directed simply "Trenton, Cache County" instead of via Weston as heretofore. The route from Logan to Clarkston has simply been extended to Trenton, which makes direct connection between that settlement and this city, with reasonable certainty of the timely arrival of mails twice a week. We hope our Trenton subscribers will get their papers more regularly in the future than formerly. The health of the people of Trenton is good, and crops most excellent, for all of which we congratulate the good people of that thrifty settlement. Reapers? For dry farms, will be on exhibition and sale during Conference at Zion's Board of Trade. 33-tf Badly Kicked. On Wednesday of last week while a boy aged 12 years, named James Petersen, son of Jens Petersen, was sitting astride a colt, a mare standing near by kicked at the colt but her kick flew too high to hit the animal, and one foot struck the boy in the mouth, making a frightful wound. The upper front teeth were knocked out, that portion of the jaw badly fractured, and the upper lip terribly cut. The shock caused the pupil of one of the boy's eyes to expand to four times its natural size, while the other remained normal. ZCMI. New stock of Clothing and Furnishing Goods at Z.C.M.I. A good man in the person of Brother Andrew Quigley departed this sphere of action on Thursday evening, in St. Mary's Hospital of this city. Brother Quigley, who was well known in this community-but more especially in Cache Valley and in the north-has been a great sufferer from tumors, and in the early part of May, it will be remembered, he underwent an operation in the right groin, from which he recovered for a time. A relapse, however, set in with the result above stated. The deceased, as far back as 1858, in in the Salmon River times, started, in company with a Mr. Lake, to carry the express to Lemhi. In that business Mr. Lake was killed by the Indians, and the deceased, riddled with bullets, came very near meeting the same fate. The body of the deceased was in a very bad condition from other tumors in different parts of the body. It was, however, embalmed and expressed to Swan Lake, Idaho, on line of the Utah and Northern, his place of residence, yesterday afternoon. Deceased was 49 years of age.-News. And still they keep Cumming, and if our city fathers or some one else, don't imitate the policy of Evarts and prohibit the further Cumming of Cummings into Logan, it is hard to tell what condition this town will be Cumming to. The point we are Cumming at is the Cumming to town of another Cummings, a little one, and as yet comparatively harmless, a son, born to Louisa, wife of Mr. J.D. Cummings, as per birth notice elsewhere. The father, it is hoped, will be able to be around in the course of a few days; the mother is doing excellently, and the little stranger appears quite contented. The following letter signed "A Little Girl, Ten Years Old," was sent to our sanctum a few days ago. We cheerfully give place to it, and consider it a very nice little letter, and we thank our little correspondent for sending it to us, and for the item of news which it contains: DEAR EDITOR-Our Primary Association of the Third ward had a very nice party in the school house last Saturday afternoon. It was gotten up by our dear president and her counselors for the benefit of the children. There were about eighty children present to join in the dance. We also had a song from two of the little girls, which was sung in a very creditable manner. The most of us try to attend our meetings every Saturday, and are taught to live in the fear and love of God. LOGAN, June 27th, 1881. Evan Stevens' last dramatic effort, a juvenile operetta having the above title, was performed in Logan Theatre on Friday afternoon, and Friday and Saturday evenings of last week, each time to a full house. The place has an interesting plot, and is replete with beautiful music and choruses. The juvenile performers, as a rule, did splendidly, their age considered, and all without exception deserve a more minute mention than our space permits us to make. We are glad to see friend Stevens receive substantial appreciation of his musical labors in our midst, for he deserves it. POTTER, "the" artist, at Cardon's. 21 Closing of B.Y. College. To day is the closing day of B.Y. College. The academic year does not terminate till July 22d, but the attendance of pupils is so small, and the weather so warm, that it was deemed best to make to-day the closing day. The pupils passed their examinations as well as at any previous time since the founding of the College, and the faculty, consisting of Miss Ida I. Cook, and Mr. Horace Cummings have reason to be gratified with the results of their labors. We hope to see the College well filled when it opens again in the fall. MASKS at all prices, at the Book Store. 42 Try It. Cows will sometimes get into a Lucerne patch, and the result, of course, is bloating. A ???? a cure for a bloated cow, a correspondent says, that on several occasions has seen two or three ears of corn have a wonderful effect on the suffering animal. The beast gets to chewing the corn, and in very many cases relief is secured. Try it.-News.
