Show Thievery. The U.O.M.&B. Co. [Company] has lately been losing valuable property by a despicable system of thievery, and to day the business manager of the company publishes in the LEADER an offer of a reward for the detection of guilty parties. Last week the company's boom on Logan river gave way, and allowed a large number of ties, saw logs, cedar posts, &c., belonging to the company, to float down the stream. Many of the ties, logs and posts have washed ashore, or lodged in the brush on the river banks, and, lying thus, they seem to have been looked upon as legitimate prey by certain persons of dishonest propensities. The fact is, these logs, ties and posts are just as much the property of the U.O.M.&B. Co. [Company] as if they lay piled up in the company's yard. The company bought and paid for them, and caused them to be floated down the river, and parties who carry off any of them do so at a great risk of a prosecution for larceny. The officers of the company are resolved to put in jail any person detected in stealing this property, and we commend their resolution, and heartily wish them success in fastening the guilt where it belongs. |
