Show Territorial Talk. Ogden is to have street lamps-possibly. Ogden boasts of a canyon horse that can trot a mile in 3:3? 8:8? Kirkham and Kinnersley s panorama is showing with good success in the junction city. Two hundred dollars reward is offered to any person causing the arrest and conviction of the parties who recently robbed the Cedar Fort store of $800. Z.C.M.I., of Salt Lake, has brought suit again O.J. Hollister for $9,500 alleged to have been illegally collected as a tax on script issued by them. From the News: Hon. Albert P. Rockword died on Wednesday night at his residence, Sugar House Ward. His ailment was a disease of the lungs, from which he had been confined to his bed for the past three weeks. He was born June 5th, 1815, in Holliston, Mass.; joined the Church in 1823, went through the persecutions endured in Missouri and elsewhere and was steadfast and foremost in every good work. He was one of the pioneers of Utah in 1847, and since then has been a prominent member of the Church and a man of integrity, position and influence in the community. He served in the State Legislature of Utah, has been a member of the same body ever since, and was elected for the approaching session, this winter. He was the pioneer fish commissioner of the territory also, and one of the directors of the Deseret Agricultural and Manufacturing Society. In fact, through all his career, he had held high and responsible positions with honor to himself and benefit to the community in which he has so long resided. A good man has gone to rest after a long life of usefulness. He died peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends, and previous to his death, shook hands with and bade them all goodbye. We sincerely sympathize with the bereaved family in their heavy loss. Elder W.W. Jackson, of American Fork, Elder Burningham, of Woods Cross, and Elder Neilson, of Willow Creek, left Tuesday morning on missions, the two former for Great Britain, and last to Scandinavia. Brother Burningham is the one who was arrested for bigamy, a few weeks ago--that is, on suspicion of having taking a plural wife which was ignored by the Grand Jury, last week, and the defendant discharged for lack of evidence. From the Junction: The Beaver Watchman says Judge Boreman returned from Salt Lake City a week ago, and appears very much at home among his old friends. We are glad to see Hon. Boreman back, ready to dispense justice, which he has always done in this district. The Watchman exhibits the same defects in the matter of proof reading that so signally characterized its defunct predecessor, the Chronicle. For instance, in the above extract, it has left out with between dispense and justice. A little more care, neighbor. |
