Show The anti-"Mormon" bills named in the following dispatch are as mild as could be expected: WASHINGTON, Dec. 8.-Senator Vest to-day introduced two bills bearing upon the Mormon question. One provides that whenever any marriage according to the forms, belief or practices of any religious denomination, shall be solemnized in any territory of the United States, a written certificate of such marriage, containing the names and residences of the parties married, shall be filed in the office of the clerk of the supreme court of the territory. The bill also provides that the certified record of such marriage may be admissible as evidence upon the trial of any cause in any court of the United States. The provisions of the bill are not to apply to a marriage between Indians in the territories. The other bill provides that no woman shall be disqualified as a witness in any trial for bigamy in the territories by reason of the marriage to the defendant in the case. |
