Show 3xxxcla,-y Sorvloofli Sunday, Feby. 23, '96. E. B. Snow presiding. After the usual preliminaries were attended to John L. Smith Jr. of Cassia Stake, Idaho, arose and j , in substance said: There is a pleas- ure in meeting with the saints . wherever we see them. Said this and showed that Jesus said to his servants in his day that he that would be the greatest must be the servant of all. The Choir sang an anthem "Oh, give thanks unto the Lord." , Benediction by Richard Bent- Wm. Atkin, reporter twas his first visit to this Southern country. He had come to visit his family that reside here, and also to do some work in the Temple. Said that settlements in the north hav- ing only a few hundred inhabitants iave their saloons and their accom-jso accom-jso panying evils, but he was pleased to see nothing of the kind in Saint fwV George, and this speaks well, in- deed, for the people who live here. This is a day when we, as a people, are in duty bound to look around us and know who are the friends of mankind, and we, the young people, should be very thankful that we were born of goodly parents" pa-rents" who have done all they could to teach us the ways of the Lord. Refered to the Idaho Test Oath and said it had been removed from the Statute book and now a number num-ber of people are able to vote for r . , their ofilcers and to some extent enjoy the franchise which all honest hon-est citizens delight to enjoy. He spoke of the perseverence of the Latter-day Saints in many places in subduing the elements and making mak-ing homes for themselves and their families. Said he had a great amount of respect for those who have pioneered the way for the Latter-day Saints. Said he should always have a pleasing recollection of his visit to this southern country. John G. McQuarne said it was unexpected to him to be called on i to speak to the people today, but desired to do what was required of him. He had faith in the prayer pray-er that was offered up at the opening open-ing of this meeting, that the spirit of God would dictate such things to the speakers as shall be beneficial benefi-cial to eacli of us. He read part ; pf the 22nd chapter of St Matthew and showed that we as a people, while we render to CaBser the things that are Ca3esers, we should not forget our God and render to God the things that are God's, and we should be a law-abiding people in every sense of the word, and we should so live that by every act of I our lives we should prove that we S are a people seeking to learn not only to be governed but to learn the ways of God and also to learn i to be what many of us ought to be, j prepared to take part in the gov- ernments of the earth and thereby become inteligent and be prepared 4 to take part in establishing peace j on the earth.
