Show UIXTAII ISASIX LIXE WILL BE BUILT IF PERMITTED'.' If its petition to the Interstate commerce commission is granted, the Denver &. Rio Grande will "eventually'' construct its projected project-ed line into the Uintah basin, although al-though at the present time it is felt that the money necessary for such construction could be put to better advantage in strengthening existing exist-ing lines, J. S. Pyeatt, president of the Denver & Rio Grande, informed the Salt Lake chamber of commerce Mr. Pyeatt intimated that his road is planning to construct the Dotsero cutoff, connecting the Denver & Salt Lake with the Denver & Rio Grande, a little west of the Moffat tunnel, roviding-a line between Salt Lake and Denver which would be practically practi-cally as short as the combined line cf the Denver & Salt Lake and the proposed Salt Lake & Denver. Mr. Pyeatt addressed the board for the purpose of outlining his road's objections to the propsal of road's objections to the proposal of the Bamberger line. He read the statement of the Denver & Rio Irande presented at the beginning of the hearing before Henry C. Hall of the interstate commerce commission commis-sion in Salt Lake last July 27. This statement objected on the principal grounds that the Bamberger interests inter-ests had net shown their ability to obtain proper financial backing for the line, and that there is sufficient traffic between Salt Lake and Denver to warrant another through line. This would simply make two., struggling strug-gling lines and deprive Mie Denver tt Rio Grande of ever becoming a strong road and decrease its ability to serve the public, according to Mr. Pyeatt. Julian Bamberger was in attendance attend-ance at the meeting and assured Mr. Tyeatt and the members of the board that his company would bo willing to have a certificate of convenience and necessity for the building of the Salt Lake & Denver granted on the condition that the finances could be arranged within a reasonable time. |
