Show ALTAMONT - MT0 EMMONS By LOIS LaROSE "What Think Ye of Christ" was the theme for the 1966 Altamont Seminary Commencement. Commence-ment. Forty-three students graduated and received their diploma and pins on May 20th. Prelude and postlude was played by Shauna Fisher. The class sang, "I Know That My Re-demcr Re-demcr Lives". Thomas Tew offered the Invocation. Tommy Tom-my Thacker gave the welcome address. A short play entitled "What Think Ye of Christ" was acted by fourteen members of the class. Susan Vance played a piano solo. A talk by Joyce Thayne followed by remarks by Frank Walker. Grant Williams Wil-liams presented the graduates to President Glen Mohlman and he awarded the diplomas to the class. Closing prayer was offered by Valerie Hansen. Bob Watts returned home Wednesday after spending a week in the Veterans Hospital receiving a medical checkup. Sandra Fisher was admitted to the Roosevelt Hospital Tuesday Tues-day where she was operated on for appendicitis. She came home Sunday where she is recovering re-covering just fine. Rhea Kunz left Sunday for Salt Lake City where she will transact business and receive a medical checkup. Bishop William Brotherson along with Mr. and Mrs, Lawrence Law-rence Young, Mr. Clinty Ames, Mr. Carl Wood, Mr. Oscar Nelson, Mr. Joe Swasey, Mr. Albert Percy and Lee Potts attended a special Priesthood Temple Excursion Saturday, May 21 in Salt Lake City. Mrs. Zella Bennion is reported re-ported coming along nicely after having surgery at the L. D.S. Hospital this week. County Nurse Mary Workman Work-man was at the elementary school Thursday giving oral polio vaccine to the kindergarten kinder-garten and 1st grade students. Word was received from U.S. Navy commanding officer CP. Pfarrer to the parents of Roy LaRose, who is serving on the U.S. S. Brister, U.S. Navv that a 120 -foot steel hulled Trawler attempting to smuggle arms and supplies through Market Time patrols to the Viet Kong. The U.S. S. Brister opened up on the beach with 13 rounds of 3 inch ammunition ammu-nition and later with 20 more rounds exchanged fire all tlirough the night of May 10th. This happened on the Cau Mau peninsula 200 miles southwest of Saigon. A few of the personnel per-sonnel was wounded by the Brister came out the victor and all is well now. Roy is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman LaRose. She came to attend the graduation and wedding of Joanna LaRose. Mr. Gary Jesson drove the school bus to Salt Lake City taking the seventh grade students stu-dents for the day where they visited Pioneer Village, Hogle Zoo, and all the points of interest in the city on their annual educational school trip. Mrs. Ina Kitteridge and Mr. Jack Barton were their chaperons. chap-erons. Janae Tucker celebrated her sixth birthday Friday with1 twelve guests for an outdoor lawn party. The motif was "Mary Had a Little Lamb" with balloons strung around the lawn and a pink and white birthday cake as the centerpiece. Games were played and refreshments refresh-ments were served to Julie Tucker, Calvin Fisher, Lori Jo, Timothy, Valoy Stevenson, Carolyn Babcock, Richard Williams, Mark Young, Rich and Debbie Bisel, Johnny Miles, and Jerry Monsen. Verl Tucker was promoted to Captain in the National Guard Saturday at Vernal. Boys from this area accompaning Capt. Tucker for double drill were Blake Rust, Andy Stevenson, Steven-son, Max Thompson, Tommy Thacker and Terry Fieldsted. Little League baseball team won their first game of the sea son by defeating Myton 18 to 2. This little team will see plenty of action this season by playing teams from Duchesne and Myton. The annual senior Tea honoring honor-ing all seniors and their parents was held Thursday, May 19, at the Cultural Hall. The Variety Arts Club sponsored the tea. Standing in the receiving line were Principal and Mrs. Mark Simmons, Mr. and Mrs. Al Marshall, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Barton, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Oman, Mrs. Carolyn Miles. They greeted 3b seniors and their parents. Oversized roses of various two-toned colors were the centerpiece on each lace covered cover-ed table. Numerous floral arrangements of roses completed the spring decor. Senior, girls were given carnation corsages and the boys were given carnation carna-tion boutonniers. The following program was presented: vocal solo by Marion Harrison; dance by Mrs. Moat and her daughter; vocal solo by Dorothy Luck; tap dance by Delyce Bellon and a reading by Bob Benson. Refreshments were served. 1 X. LI ALTAMbNt HONOR STUDENT STU-DENT - Betsy Lynette Brown is a daughter of Mrs. (Clara B. ) Siler, Lomita, California. She resides with a sister, Mrs. Marvin Mar-vin Sorensen, at Talmage. This is her first year attending the Altamont High School. Miss Brown was the home-maker home-maker of the year at Altamont for 1966. |
