Show A d Unnecessarily Hazardous Road Conditions Tourists these days are pretty much united in I I condemnation of the road between Heber and Duchesne Duchesne Duchesne Du Du- chesne and since traveling the road ourselves we ve donot do donot donot not bl blame me them The odd part of it is that th the complaint com oln- plaint comes COInes not on the part of the road we ve anticipated ed the construction through Deep creek but on the construction in the east part of Strawberry Stra valley Strong and Grant are quite definitely in our our opinion not doing what they should toward vard main main- maintaining n- n taini ig traffic over their contract between bet Soldier Creek and the middle of the valley Long stretches of road covered with course run pit gravel without a gravel surfacing great clouds of dust through which the driver cannot even discern the edge of the road on fills 50 feet high and detours filled filled filled fill fill- ed with pits and dust pockets all contribute to 10 miles of the worst vorst and most hazardous stretch of public public pub pub- lic lie highway we ve have ever traversed Chairman Hammond of the state road commission commission commis commis- sion told a delegation in Salt Lake City Tuesday that he did not know v whether or not the contract with Strong and Grant gives the r road ad commission power ver to demand sprinkling of the road and removal of other hazards We dont don't know v either but we ve do feel that if the road commission failed to take this precaution precaution precaution pre pre- caution it should assume the responsibility and remove remove remove re re- re- re move these hazards with its own equipment Such conditions on a trans-continental trans to fair-to-fair highway highway high high- way yay carrying the traffic now v traveling on highway high 40 are unnecessary and inexcusable and should not be allowed ved to continue On the other hand we ve were vere pleasantly surprised with the road condition in Deep Creek W. W W. W Clyde facing what looked like almost problems problems problems lems of construction and little opportunity for detours off the construction has maintained ti traffic right over I his work vork and with the use of sprinklers and careful maintenance has a road over which there can be little complaint even from the most exacting of Eastern tourists There have been rough stretches over his construction several times but they existed sted only when there was va no alternative and have been eliminated as rapidly as good engineering and fine equipment could possibly do it His job is is rapidly nearing Bearing completion completion com com- completion and will vill soon be covered with gravel fro from In end to end Incidentally Chairman Ham Hammond mend said that while Deep creek is not yet under cants contract act for oiling the road commission will vill oil it t this his fall if it is is ready in time It will vill be bevell well vell for Basin citizens to watch vatch this closely and be ready to urge this oiling for it surely l looks now v as though it will vill be completed in in plenty of time Stampede Incorporation For roe Permanency Planning for Duch Duchesne's esnes esne's annual Labor Day Stampede will vill get into high gear next nest week with the completion of corporation organization which is set for July A public meeting on this date will vill ll perfect per per- feet the organization which i is s already going ahead on ona ona ona a temporary basis Good at attendance at this meeting will vill be the greatest insurance of a good organization and a successful successful suc sue cele celebration lation and should be the object of every Duchesne citizen Fo For s several veral years the celebration has been staged with increased size size and increased success each year But this has been done under difficulties each year the greatest greatest of which perhaps has been the lack of definiteness and permanency of th the organization Each year a few v energetic persons have had to create interest call meetings seek sponsors sponsors sponsors spon spon- sors and get an organization working on the tion To dispose of this d difficulty it has been decided m to incorporate the affair with a permanent organization organization organization throughout throughput the year year- r ready cadY and with authority to go ahead with each years year's celebration each summer in plenty of time to insure proper propel arrangements T To Io o see that this organization 1 is s made up of the proper personnel and to assure it of proper propel backing is is the duty of every interested citizen of Duchesne and this can best b be e done by attendance at the meeting on July The whole thought behind the move is is the idea that any undertaking properly started is is half done and that incorporation of the Stampede ti will vill i ll insure insure insure in in- sure a proper start |
