Show 0 M WHAT AVAIL PARKING MARKS I Recently the Junior Chamber of Commerce procured procured procured pro pro- cured paint and through the efforts of its members striped the curb on both sides of Main street indicating indicating indi indi- cating eating parking spaces and showing shoving the angle at which cars should be parked So far it seems their labors are to a large part wasted for it seems that a large per cent of the cars cars' still pull in to the curb at any angle and pay no attention to the marks They straddle straddle strad strad- dle die the marks as often as they park between them If the drivers drivels of cars in Duchesne are too dumb or too indifferent to learn the proper way vay of parking their cars through the power of suggestion it might be well veIl for the city marshal to pass out a few tickets to the offenders They might learn a little faster if they paid traffic violation fines a time or 01 two INSPIRATION FOR THE LIONS When a small city undertakes to entertain Lions club delegates from a district as large as Utah and Idaho at a two day convention it means a lot of work york and planning and when such a convention is is staged as successfully as the one just held at Vernal only commendation can be voiced for the fine efforts of those in charge It is regrettable that Duchesne Lions so close to the scene of the convention were vere not present in in greater greato great great- er r numbers Particularly ar i is o this true of the second day on which the Lions really got down to the business business business busi busi- ness of and on which so much of real inspiration inspiration tion was vas in the air that Duchesne Lion President F. F L. L Maxwell Max and Leland Hair who vho stayed through the entire convention and attended it all are boiling over with ith the enthusiasm they acquired Much of this inspiration inspiration inspiration in in- they contribute to the fine addresses gi given ven by International President Walter Dexter of San Francisco who vho gave the principal addresses of the convention like anything else is pretty sure to return return return re re- re- re turn to a member just what he puts into it and no club can expect to get et much benefit either for its members or for its community unless its members believe in and think and act Duchesne has so many problems to face so many possibilities for expansion a and d progression that Lion Lion- ism has here a wonderful opportunity to prove its worth The desired results can only be accomplished however if the Lions themselves are re willing villing to put forth the necessary time and effort an and d if the entire population of the city gets out and supports the Lions and their theil projects ro s in in the manner they deserve ANOTHER AID TO SAFE DRIVING The state road commission i is s busy now nov adding another safety feature to our highway ti in in the form of reflector buttons on the guard rails along highway high 40 which shine out like stars at night s showing shoving ng us where the guard lard rails are and warning us of turns and fills This is intended to be and should be a great help to the driver at night Everything science and mechanics can do in the way vay of improving roads and driving conditions is being done to protect the motorist today and yet the toll deaths still seems to be le on the increase The big trouble is that the scientists and others who vho are interested in decreasing traffic hazards have not yet found any way to control the nut on the steering I wheel The more improvements they make on roads loads I and automobiles the faster we ve travel apparently determined determined de de- de- de to offset if possible every protection given us in in our mad race toward eternity We appreciate the efforts being put forth in spite of th this s and are glad to see the road commission taking this step on the highway high through the Uin Uintah tat Basin |
