Show v "NOTHING AILS YOU." liditor Truth: i desire lo thank you for tho space and attention you gave my last letter. let-ter. In your comments upon It, sev-eial sev-eial statements were mailo which Christian Scientists do not believe and u.ey are no part ol the teachings ol Christian Science. Misconceptions ol any church or pioneers ol Truth harm all concerned; lienco 1 kindly ask yuu to give plueo to tho lollowing lines ol explanation: You any, "Had this Samaritan Sa-maritan belonged to Uio cult represented repre-sented by Brother Oontos, he would havo said, 'My dear lriend, there Is nothing at ah tho matter with you; your mortal mind is tolling you you are hurt, but you are not . . . you haven't been wounded at all . there Is no such thing as matter . . you havn't any body at all; just a mind.' 'this erroneous idea of Christian Chris-tian Science has been given out by others as follows: "Yon can't have a headache, for you have no head to acho; you can't do wrong or bo lost, lor there Is no sin; you can stand In tho blighting storm, lor you havo no body to freeze; you can jump over the precipice, lor you havo no body anywuy, just a mind; thero Is no weakness weak-ness and no disease, so just go on about your work, etc." Could any ono bo deceived, for ono moment, into bo-liovlng bo-liovlng Christian Scientists teach or practice! such silly nonsense? Tho very fact tnat tho Christian Sclenco denomination stands as high us any denomination de-nomination in the land In intelligence, education and culture is a sulllclont hint to any thinking person that no such inconsistencies are any part ot tho saving Christianity which thoy practice. Prominent in tho work of Christian Science, thero aro many well known judges, lawyers, physicians, ministers, and other people of Influence Influ-ence and high standing. Now, Mr. Kditor, do you think, for ono second, that such peoplo could bo duped into forsaking a successful business busi-ness or profession and enter upon a work so silly as that Indicated by what you claim Christian Scientists beliovo. In this day of enlightenment every well Informed person knows thero aro thousands of cases of dlseaso which havo been healed without tho use of any drugs or material means through tho efforts of Christian Scientists after materia mcdica had given them up to die. Within twenty-four hours wo can produce more than live hundred poo pie in Salt Lake City who will testify to their healing in Christina Sclenco. Do you bollovo that such nonsonso and dupery as you attach to Christian Scientists Sci-entists would do tills healing? Tho Christian Sclenco denomination Is on a sound financial basis and has built many of tho finest churches In tho cities cit-ies and dedicated them without debt. They aro a class of people that pay their debts and practice the Scrlpturo that says, "Owe no many anything, but to lovo ono another." Could such wisdom wis-dom and work ns this havo no other foundation than tho foolish statement" referred to abovo? Tho Chrlstiai. Sclenco denomination is unprecedented in its rapid growth among all classes and especially with thinking peoplo. Is this not a sufllcicnt hint to any ono, who stops for a moment to think, that !i Christian Scientists must havo somo jjl jl groat truth and an important mcssnge Jam for mankind? There was a day when ill tho public was ready to believe that III Christian Scientists said "There is nothing ails you, for you have no head EI9 to ache"; hut now the spontaneous in- II quiry Is, why does It grow so rapidly fill among thinking people? When results aro good, tho un- ftyj (Continued on page 12) . ILK I "NOTHING AILS YOU" (Continued from page 0 dcrlylng principles producing such results, re-sults, must also bo correct and good. Arguments never bring out the spiritual spir-itual meaning of the Scriptures. Spirituality, Spir-ituality, not Intellectuality, discerns the true meaning of the Scriptures. Dominion Do-minion over human difficulties Is the only satisfying evidence that what one believes Is the Truth. Why do you think Jesus and the . Apostles and prophets had so much ! trouble with the people of their time? It was because the spiritual intorpreta-, intorpreta-, tlon of God and His universe never , agree with an Interpretation given by a carnal, material and sensual mind; I this latter so-called mind Is known as ! the llvo physical senses or carnal mind which Paul says Is enmity to God. You say, "God sees, else how does He direct the stars in their courses? Ho can hoar, becauso Scripture says ho does hear. . . . The Lord God walked in the garden in tho cool of tho day." This interpretation of tho Scrip- tures makes God a mighty hero with I "body parts and passions" and de- I velops into the belief that he sits on a I throne and sends evil as well as Good. I This has helped to produce many Infl- I dels as they could not harmonize their 1 senso of justice and Infinite Love to a I being who created evil and sent' it 1 upon them and then punished them for I being in this evil. I Now, Mr. Editor, your Idea of God I and man begins in tho second chapter I of Genesis, which is tho material ac- I count of creation and which represents I tho Adamlc or falso and material senso I of God, man and tho universe. Do I you not think you have overlooked the 1 first chapter of Genesis, which is the i8i real and spiritual account of Creation? God is Spirit, then He Is nothing else. God Is Infinite Life, infinite Truth, infinite in-finite Love, then ho is not finite matter that walks on tho earth. Both cannot bo true. Which will you accept? Christian Chris-tian Scientists understand tho Scriptures Scrip-tures to teach that God is universal eternal Lovo that sends no ovll upon man. Wo understand that man Is spiritual, spir-itual, tho imago and likeness of Infinite Infi-nite Lovo; then Ho Is not material and mortal. Both cannot bo true. Which do you accept? Christian Scientists know that matter, sin, sorrow, disease and death aro real in human experience, and must bo grappled with manfully through a mighty strugglo and overcome over-come in tho understanding of divine Law. Wo do not hold high heads and pass by, "a certain man who went down from Jerusalem to Jericho" with the heartless saying, "Nothing alls you." No set of people on earth aro spending more time with tho sick and tho sorrowing sor-rowing than aro Christian Scientists and they aro doing it tenderly and lovingly lov-ingly and this is why tho multitudes aro coming Into Science; for it is not an ARGUMENT about tho meaning of tho Scriptures, but Is God's living presence that delivers them from their sorrows. If it ho truo that wo practice, prac-tice, "Nothing ails you." why should wo build churches, writo books, glvo away llteraturo and visit tho besido of the sick? One moment's candid consideration con-sideration of this subject would bo sufficient suf-ficient ovidenco to warrant any one in V. thinking thoro must bo somo wrong notions handed around about what 9 ; Christian Scientists boliovo and about 1 their understanding of tho Scriptures, a ns well as what they moan when they ' say, "dlsoaso and all discord aro not 0 real and aro no part of God's creation." n , Wo agree with you, Mr. Editor, that nil creations aro real entities; but wo I boliovo that God and all His creations I aro spiritual, harmonious and eternal. I - , wo do not boliovo that matter, sin, I i dlseaso and mortal man aro really IK nothing, or non-ontltlos, to tho human 1 I mind; but wo understand that mortal 3 I man and this material unlvorso aro not 1 t eternal as wo seo them today. What f wo see, and most of what bo bolievo, are misconceptions, or a falso senso of tho real-spiritual universe. This false concept of God and His universe will change as human thought changes; in this way, wo aro being transformed by the renewing of our mind. As the spiritual sense of God, man and tho universe appears, tho falso or material concept of creation will disappear. As this chango from a material to tho spiritual senso of tho universe goes on, mortal man is brought In harmony with divine Law, or the divine Mind, and this heals him and saves him. Knowing the Truth saves. Humanity needs to bo saved from all that is unlike God or Good. Sin, disease, suffering and death aro phases of tho human mind; hence aro no part of God's creation. If God has not created cre-ated them, Ho has not sent them, and wo have a right to tree ourselves from them; and tho effort to do so is consistent con-sistent with tho fact that they aro not God's creatures. If they aro real entities, God created them; this makes Him responsible for all sin and suffering known to humanity. human-ity. If God has created them, we have no right to try to destroy them; if he has sent them, It Is just for us to ho punished by them and Ho would certainly cer-tainly take them away in His own good time becauso Ho is a just' God. If God has created sin, disease and suffering, they oxi3t in and of tho divine Mind and aro eternal; then why should man bo commanded to rid himself of that which God knows and has created and sent upon him? Shall man be more perfect than his Maker? Thanking you again for past courtesies cour-tesies and tho space you give this letter, let-ter, 1 remain. Yours most sincerely, LEWIS B.
