Show www SMILE AND BOOST. In one of the popular publications of the country is published a picture of a doughnut, on the body of the doughnut is printed, "Crops and Resources. On the small round space in the center of the i doughnut are the words, "Financial Depression" and the legend under I the picture is, "Keep your eye on the doughnut." I That strikes us as being good policy. It is a human attribute to ! always enlarge on our own individual troubles. When people have difficulties or troubles they arc inclined to let their minds dwell on i their own depressing affairs to such an extent that they begin to think j their lot is harder than anyone's else. But after all any kind of trouble j or difficulty is good, it develops and makes us better and stronger I if we overcome it and surmount the difficulty. But the danger is I that we allow our minds to be convinced that our injury is irretriev able, when we reach that conclusion then our first real trouble begins. We met some people the other day who were passing through a certain difficulty and unpleasant experience and they were expressing the idea that the fates seemed to be against them and that their lot was harder than anyone's else. It was suggested by someone that they get assistance from certain quarters, and these people said, "Why, my goodness, we thought of doing that, but we discovered that those people were in a much more serious condition than we." So you see it is no trick when you think your lot is the hardest, to find someone else who is much worse off than you. It is a good idea when we get discouraged and think our portion is a hard one to look around among our friends and neighbors and it is almost a certainty that when we then think back on our own conditions condi-tions that we will have ample room for rejoicing that we are not in , someone's else place. The trouble with many of us is that we keep our eyes on the hole in the doughnut and forget the real doughnut. To smile is a u wonderful thing, there is nothing so inspiring when you feel discour- . aged as to meet somebody who smiles, really smiles. " Let us boost and smile. |
