Show w r OUR CLIMATE AND PATENT MEDICINES. This, the most delightful and inspiring season of the year, seems to particularly appeal to the patent medicine manufacturers as the proper, time for a campaign of advertising for their various mixtures and concoctions. You will find the daily papers, the bill boards, and the show windows win-dows filled with advertisements and placards loudly proclaiming the virtues of various spring tonics, blood purifiers and health pills. Just why this season of the year appeals to the advertising departments depart-ments of patent medicine concerns we do not know, because, it seems to us that nature is so bright and inspiring in the spring time that even the most sluggish and pessimistic mind should be quickened and inspired, and above all, here in Utah, where our climate is so invigorating we fail to sec how anyone can be appealed to by gloomy patent medicine advertisements. Fully one-half of our disease and ills arc imaginary, anyway, and if we would just live closer to nature and farther away from these patent medicine fakes our general health would improve a hundred per cent. About the worst complaint that any one has, in Utah, in the spring time is an inclination to be lazy and the best cure in the world for that malady is an abundance of fresh air and an hour's physical exercise every morning before breakfast. If anyone feels the symptoms of this spring malady coming on, let him take the above prescription and he will be able to laugh heartily when he sees Dr. Bunco's spring humbug tonic advertisement and the laugh will do him good, too. |
