Show I Mines and Mining As the weeks go by the mining industry in the West shows greater and ever greater evidence of regaining the ground it lost during the panic. This gain is made evident by the return of confidence con-fidence upon the part of the investing public in the industry as a whole, and the constant resumption of work in every part of the country. coun-try. Word comes from Boston that during the past week more in-quirics in-quirics have been made for mines and mining stocks than during any two weeks since the fall in the price of the metals caused stocks to recede in value. The effect of this is that more and more money is made available for the development of western mines ; more labor is finding employment and all business in the mining states will feel the upward trend. Locally there is an upward trend all along the line. Tintic is sharing with the other camps her renewed period of activity. Camps which have been idle for many months are feeling the touch of prosperity and are again becoming active, while new territory is being invaded and prospected. In the smelting world there is a better feeling manifested. There are but few plants idle and these are preparing to start their fires. With the ever-improving price of metals more and more of the mines which were shut down some months ago arc opening up, and with the improved business conditions in all consuming centers, the smelter smel-ter people have lost their fear and purchase ore as it is sent to them. The price of mining stocks has been in a healthy condition during dur-ing the week. There have been no wild fluctuations in values, and though trading on the local exchange has not been as brisk as it was a few weeks ago, still a great volume of business has been attained. Upon the whole the week' has been the banner one of the year as far as mining is concerned. TINTIC. The electrical connection of the Knight smelter with the power plant has been made and it only requires the picking up of a few odds and ends before the plant will be able to be placed in commission. com-mission. The May Day has broken into a great body of ore on the lower levels of the mine. As the ore is making in a northerly direction it shows that a hitherto unexplored portion of the mine bids fair to outdo that which is already under development. The same condition obtains in the Humbug mine of the Uncle Sam Mining company. Here a great body of ore is coming in and those who are posted are of the opinion that the mine will repeat its old time sensational era of production. The Swansea Extension company have determined to develop at depth. They are now engaged in sinking a winze from the 4S0 level and will continue to the 1000 level. A strike was reported during the week in the Ralph mine. The ore is a high grade galena, and the bodv is proving to be a big one. The discovery was made on the 125 level and is being developed with all haste. New machinery is now on the ground of the Gemini, and the Ridge and Valley companies. The machinery consists of two electric elec-tric hoists and the work of installation is already under way The mines will be developed at greater depth. It is reported that the Colorado will ship to the United States smelter for the present. The Grand Central will also be a shipper in a small way, awaiting the opening of the Knight plant, with which it has a contract. I . ,.The new machinery for the Sioux Con. is nearly in position. A station will be cut and drifting will be under way along the vein in a few days. J h The Lower Mammoth has again come into the lime light. In this connection con-nection it may be said that the Knight people have come to the I early conclusion that the plant as projected is too small and as a I consequence they have ordered two more furnaces. These will )e I installed as soon as it is possible to get the plant in shape. I Word comes up that the Tintic Standard has now determined u " I prospect at depth. A shaft will be sunk to the 500 level and devci- I opment work pushed. From last reports the mine, is looking better I than ever. I BINGHAM. I The blowing in of the new furnace at the Garfield plant has I had its effect on the ore production of the camp. The smelter is I now in a position to handle the ores in a better shape than ever and a larger tonnage will be mined hereafter. The Yampa smelter has ! closed down for the present. This step was made imperative until ' the new converter building is completed. This work will be accomplished accom-plished by July 15th. The new territory just opened at the Utah Con. is so extensive that it is now said that it will take years to deplete the bodies at the present rate of production. As the mine is now turning out 1200 f tons of ore every 24 hours it will be seen that it is a bigger propo- I sition than ever. ' I The Black Dog people arc congratulating themselves at the present time that they have a mine. The ore is coming in m great shape, and it will be shipping in a short time. To this end ore '.ins are being constructed and everything put in shape. The ore is of a very high grade. The North Bingham people have begun sinking their incline shaft.
