Show Sports Here and There by Al Ablett Bingham finished the season with only one league loss by taking tak-ing Judge 60-34 as expected. Eddie Gaythwaite had another big night scoring 32 points. This time big "MooSe" Sanchez got into the scoring act. The team as a unit looked real good in their last two games. Johnny Erickson came out of the Judge game with a bad leg, but it is hoped he will be ready by tournament tour-nament time. The big boys has been playing good ball of late and the Miners would miss him. The drawings will be made Saturday Sat-urday and the official announcement announce-ment will be Sunday. But it wouldn't make any difference who Bingham meets if they are in shape, this should be their year. They are sending a veteran team. This will be their, second tournament, the same boys were in, last year. The crowd and the floor shouldn't bother them. So I say again, if the team is physically phys-ically in shape, Bingham will have their first state championship champion-ship in basketball. This is the only sport they have failed to come out on top in. So Charles beat Walcott again in what sounded like a very dull fight. It looked like for the most part, one was scared and the other was glad of it. A far cry from Joe Louis's days as champion. cham-pion. I look for him to get another an-other shot at Charles some time this summer, but the old boy just doesn't have it any more. So if Charles is to lose it will be one of the young boys coming com-ing up. Our own Utah boy, Rex Layne gets his stiffest test tonight, a-gainst a-gainst Bob Satterfield. He is going go-ing into this one on the short end of the betting, and it should be a whale of a scrap. Marv Jensen, Rex's manager, tells me that Rex Is ready to show the people of New York that he is a better fighter than he showed against Brion. Satterfield is shorter than Layne and about ten pounds lighter, but he has a dangerous left hook. I don't think he takes a punch too well, so I am picking Layne. Don't say I told you. See you at the tournament, AL o |
