Show stream by vemon vernon W shields I 1 I 1 when it rains it bores espee lally fishermen last week oren Bed buster bird ken huntington and I 1 high tailed it up in the pro vo for a couple of days of fishing rumor had it that the trout flies were out and so we had high hopes of making quite a kill ing we spent most of sunday ev ening looking for the bugs they the were not out and before we could do much fishing it started to rain cats and dogs beastly weather I 1 don t bel eve we got to fish over four hours in the two days we were chere we caught a total of eight fish include ng a two pound brown wh ch oren outsmarted bill hunt ington s offspring served as chief cook and he sure slings some whacked hash if you are ever out with him get him to prepare his specialty huntington s fisher mans stew of course you won wont t sleep after eating it but it sure I 1 tastes good ken says he can do more than cook and it if it t for the fact that he was already I 1 married I 1 bel eve oren would have proposed to him they say you cant can t fall out of bed if you sleep on the floor that s exactly what happened to me on one of the nights oren and I 1 had our sleeping bags laid out on one bed ken had his on the other having not slept very well the night before on the account of kens stew I 1 decided to retire early and was sound asleep when oren started to crawl into his sleeping bag there was a loud crash the bed crumbled up on the floor oren fine sportsman that he is gets up and moves over with ken and leaves me laying on the floor we d t get to do much fishing but we did have a lot of fun and I 1 enjoyed the companion ship of a couple of real good sports utah s second fishing season opening the high uintah range I 1 will take the spotlight sunday july ath starting time in such famous waters as mirror lake chain lakes brown duck lakes badger lakes and the great gran daddy lakes will be 5 a in the season will close october 3rd fishing in the high lakes this year should be as good as ever according to the state fish and game department the high wat ers stocked each summer by pack horse received a heavy duoto of f sh last year and these will be keeping size for the opening the marshall lakes always a good spot should be tops along with washington and lakes the roads are open to all sections ac cording to information received from the road agency this week the junior sportsmen s assoria tion reec ived and planted their load of trout in settlement canyon last week clover creek also re another load by the time this goes to press both ophir creek and south willow will have receive ed a load each mr garrard has promised the juniors another load of trout for settlement canyon for some time in july five sg of the board of big game control will be held throughout the state starting july 6 according to ross leonard fish and game director and chairman of the board of big game control the first meeting will be held at 3 ap p in july ath at duchesne mr leonard said others are slated for 1 00 p in july 7 at salina 7 30 p in july 7 at nephi 2 00 p in july 8 at ogden and 7 00 p m july 8 in salt lake city the ex session of the board to de termine the number of game ani mals to be taken this fall will con elude clude the conclave july 9 the meetings are held annually to draw information pertaining to utah s range problems and big game herds the information gath ered is the information used to base the season s hunts on as they pertain to hornless deer and elk mr leonard said information has been passed to all interested parties many months ago so that sportsmen could pre pare any data or make any sur veys of the forest service and the cattle and sheep interests we sincerely hope that all I 1 hunters take these meetings ser this year the game chief said in the past the re presenta tion of the sportsmen has been poor and only the one side of the picture has been fairly presented after the board prescribes the dates and the numbers to be taken there is a great kick back on the part of the sportsmen who then realize that it was their response res ability to participate in the meet ings the meetings will also give the sportsmen a better understand ing of the mutual problems con cerling utah s range use leonard said members of the board of big game control are mr leonard L C montgomery president of the utah cattle and horse growers ass n don abde de president of the utah wool growers ed cliff representing the regional forest service offices in ogden and henry weight utah wildlife federation |
