Show IT AND AN TWEEN with OREN PROBERT I 1 have been asked to describe the mental anguish which I 1 endure each week while preparing this column for publication apparent ly someone has detected labor pains in my style of writing and become curious about my surround ings I 1 confess it does take a great deal of persuasion on the part of my wife before I 1 finally get an ins pi ration and meet monday s dead line once the deadline is made I 1 relax until my companion of mar bial bliss prompts me bright and early tuesday morning by saying make darn certain you finish your article this week before sunday we ve a date this command is given again wednesday and each day thereafter until sunday then at long last my mind begins to toil today is such a sunday I 1 in m sit ting beneath an old cherry tree in our back yard the mud is cool a my bare feet but I 1 haven t the slightest idea what to write about personal requests this week are too complicated for deep con cent ration especially when its it s so hot this is a good hide out from my wife there s lots of shade plenty of cherries to eat and little worms crawling between my toes I 1 even have the music of hermans con stant quaking which provides suit able for such an occasion herman is the duck I 1 won for thirty cents I 1 brought him home as a present for my wife she took one look at him and ran for the house only to fall on the steps and spend the next day in bed as a result of injuries she lost one day days s pay so the duck cost us that plus my original investment it s funny how much money peo pie will spend on foolish fancies take herman for instance we will build a pen for him out of new lumber A special pool out of ce ment we well 11 buy certain kinds of feed fuss and worry over him un til he s a fat young duck but we won t even eat him because he s a family pet so herman will grow to a ripe old age and die then what herman cant take us with him so well suffer broken hearts and be one pet less such tragedy and expense seems pointless but still people spend millions of dollars a year and en courage breeders to get newer and better animals these household pets are becoming more precious than human lives to many an in that reminds me I 1 saw an old gent sitting on a down town street corner both of his legs were mis sing H ii s S only means of making a living was by the pencils he could sell think III run down and slip him a dollar for incidentals her hey man can live on grasshoppers next week the annual bit and spur rodeo was a disappointment to many fans the first evening seems there was too much dust in the air and too much wind over the loud speaker with the amount of good horsemanship that tooele thoele has I 1 can cant t understand why outsiders must be contracted to put on a show our local talent is more qualified than most out of town directors who have nothing more than good publicity agents A tip off the local junior cham chain her ber of commerce is going to par in a state wide talent search this means some young man or woman will soon be on his or her way to hollywood lets let s hope its it s someone from tooele thoele colonel heintz has a new rel relax ax aaion he coaches the thoele tooele I 1 e ord nance baseball team A twosome we are happy to see a certain postmaster and a good cook cool A TOD employees club was op en ened ed july 3rd to provide reccea dional purposes for all depot per bonnel and their guests this club is being sponsored by the employees welfare council and hopes that it will be s something om ething more than just a beer hall the council wants to operate a place where folks can go to enjoy themselves it is possible if a few drunks will confine the capacity of their stomachs and make certain they dont run over |
