Show AND TWEEN with OREN RROBERT PROBERT the joycee jaycee creed we believe that the brotherhood of man tran ascends the sovereignty of nations that economic justice can best be won by free men through free en ter prise that government should be of laws rather than men that earth s great treasure lies in human personality and that service to humanity is the best work in life adopted september 22 1946 the subject matter of my col more frequently consists of either constructive criticism or some weakness in the behavior of mankind rather than the passing out of orchids consequently there ar are e those individuals who believe I 1 am blind to the good things of life merely because I 1 do not corn com nut mit myself in terms of a job ab well done this is definitely the wrong on for I 1 congratulate any man who uses his abilities to im prove conoit conditions ions which are not favorable or to any person who renders service for the betterment of humanity but because I 1 do believe in the good things of life and consider them to be the only things really worth while I 1 have attempted to throw light on that which we seek in an effort to lessen that which we do not de sire I 1 believe that everyone who writes whether he is big time or small has public welfare foremost in his mind in fact many people have chosen the writing probes sion as a means of serving their im immediate mediate surroundings and what a useless profession it would be if i only the american public would act in accordance with a few fund principles authors and orators alike use thousands of words and phrases to say more than is contained in the above creed if we as american people would keep ourselves in harmony with the jaycee creed of living and re peat the lords prayer each night with faith in tomorrow then we would need nothing more than that for we would be blessed with all the good things in life but strangely enough human nature does not direct our activities in such a manner instead we sub nut mit ourselves to other trends of thought and often times others direct our way of thinking even now there is talk of another world war and the only complete hap appears to be in fairy tales there may or may not be an other world war depending upon our ability to adjust the mode of living in war torn countries that remains to be seen but one thing certain is that honest statesmen fool proof treaties and powerful armies will not solve the lems for permanent peace only man within himself has the power to conquer the evil that directs him into obscurity only man him self can have faith in the gospel of jesus christ and once he finds that he might well have found the solution to an ever lasting peace certainly it is one solution that has never been tried and certain ly it is food for thought As a climax to the boys day celebration a banquet was given at the officers club in honor of the tooele thoele county students who served as ordnance and city of fie ficiala I 1 als for the day among the guests was ernie hunick the tal anted young boxer from the west jordan athletic club in a brief address to the boys lt col leo H heintz commanding officer of tradition forward there was a lot of color at the oregon state utah football game but a pair of socks stole the show athletic director wore a pair of bright orange socks which matched the team s from 6 general agencies in the western states will convene for a two day meeting I 1 would be ashamed to live in this democracy accept its privileges and then quibble over a salute to its flag any individual living within the united states and accepting its constitutional rights ought g W tj salute the colors from sheer gratitude T earth having tens of millions of arens a this is the only nation on waiting and begging for admittance through its gates virtually every citizen of europe or asia would exchange all that he holds precious for a visa to these united states I 1 was taught that a salute to the flag is an homage to the people it represents the stars and stripes is the silent symbol of the greatest bous body of races and nationalities ever banded together for one set purpose the perpetuation of democracy our democracy is not perfect but we are on our way wrapped within the folds of the flag are the hopes and joys fears and tears of not only americans but of all mankind it has become the last rock to which civilization can cling woven into the national ensign with invisible golden threads is the declaration of independence articles of confederation bill of rights and the constitution all representing the most impressive far reaching documents ever minted from the conscience of man surely a flag symbolizing our inalienable right of self government gavern ment is the most worthy standard that flies over any nation on earth it is a privilege to salute the flag that came into ex istance at such a cost and at such a sacrifice ed H wolff zeila zella lamb wolff i i
