The other contestants who competed were Kelsie Lott, Lacey Jones, Alexandra Dunn, Kendra Freelove, Hay-le- y Hill, and Cailey Haynie. The pageant began with Junior Vocal Elite singing the National Anthem. Dressed in pirate attire, the contestants, along with Miss Pleasant Grove 2012 Aly Johnson, per-formed a number called "Ber-ried Treasure." The stage had quite the effects with rotating crowns on top of columns, fog, and colored lights. The contes-tants introduced themselves to the audience. Aly Johnson was the Mis-tress of Ceremonies and the emcee was Matthew March-bank- s, who had the crowd laughing with a lot of jokes throughout the night. Comic relief was provid-ed by Utah Captain Jack who stated we were all there for him, little rum candies, and the smell of treasure that was in the air. Then he learned we were not there for him or little rum candies, which was "hard to believe," but we would have a treasure hunt. As he left the stage, leav-ing the audience in laughter, the impressive panel of judges and auditors were introduced. Following their introduction, the contestants showed off their Physical Fitness in Swim-wea- r, which accounted for 15 of their total score. Alyson Johnson spoke of her platform "Positively Beautiful" which helps youth increase their self-wort- h and self-estee- The contestants On Stage Interview followed this, which was worth 5. They were asked questions concerning their platforms. Their Private Interview, worth 25 of their total score, had been done earlier in the day. Terry Marchbanks intro-duced the four girls, all past contestants of Miss Pleasant Grove, who would compete at Miss Utah this June. They are Chelsi Richards, Miss UVU; Chelsi Lukan, Miss Rocky Mountain; Kylee Anderson, Miss Utah Valley; and Aly Johnson, Miss Pleasant Grove. Terry said, "Pleasant Grove has such a strong caliber of women." Pleasant Grove High School Wrestling Team picked up an unprecedented third consecutive State Title at UVU in March. ' Photo courtesy of PichhKid.com The road from November to February seems like a short amount of time to achieve a dream of taking a third straight 5A State Championship. The 2012-201- 3 Pleasant Grove Wrestling Team, or Team 315 as they call themselves, had a dream. The team wanted their third straight and fifteenth over-all wrestling title. Under the di-rection of Coach Brock Moore they started the season with over five complete teams. Each weekend two busses would travel to two different tourna ments somewhere in Utah and carry wrestlers. The key to Pleasant Grove's success is a deep quality team of wrestlers that Coach Moore constantly pushes. The team went 9-- 1 at the Millard Ironman Duals, Un-defeated at the Wasatch Duals, placed in the top ten of the elite Reno Tournament, Undefeated at- the Skyview Duals, and the list goes on. It all led to the State Tournament in February. Quali-fying 20 wrestlers for the tour-nament shows just how deep, the team goes. Landon Gates, 120 lbs, placed 3rd, Josh Anderson, 138 lbs, placed 5th, Bailey Carl-son, 152 lbs, placed 3rd, Taylor Davis, 152 lbs, placed 6th, Aus-tin Taylor, 220 lbs, placed 3rd, and Michael Grace, 285 lbs, placed 3rd. The whole team's point contribution and effort was necessary to win the cham-pionship. With the team State Championship locked up, sev-en individual Vikings went on to the finals to seek individual State Champion titles. Of seven wrestlers six competed in the All Star Matches and won. Ben Anderson started everyone off with a state title as a Freshman at 106 lbs. Ky-so- n Levin defended his weight to pick up his second champi-onship at 113 lbs as a Sopho-more, Bronson Young kept things going winning at 132 lbs. Then Bridger Cutler came up against his Goliath, Ken Astle, a two time state cham-pion defeating our own Josh Jones the year previous in the state tournament. Bridger was down 9-- 1 in the beginning of the 3rd period when Coach Moore told him to throw it. Those who have watched Bridger wrestle since he was six years old, understood a headlock was coming. Bridg-er has an almost left-hand- head throw. Not once, not twice, but throwing it five times in the third peri-od, Bridger Cutler claimed his title and the fourth for Pleasant Grove.
