The Vikings did have two good innings where they scored three points in each, including a great home run punch by Josh Scoresby in the bottom of the seventh. So, with the last week of play, the Vikings have two home games and one travel game, all with Alta High School. We match up quite well with them and can see the Vikings winning both home games and maybe the travel game. Both Brighton and Jordan High Schools have excellent teams and they both walked away with one win apiece from Lone Peak. All three teams will go far in state this year. by Kent Allen The Beetdiggers from Jordan High School returned to PG on Friday and won game 3 to sweep the series from Pleasant Grove, 11-- 7. On the strength of 1 1 hits and 4 PG errors, the Diggers had no problem picking up the win. Rookie Head Coach Dar-ri- n Henry seemed to have to pull teeth to get his team mo-tivated. Granted Mother Na-ture was not helping matters any either, but the Beetdig-gers had the same situation to deal with also. The differ-ence is, the Diggers came to play. The Vikings may have had their minds on the Prom. Jordan's Gomez, who is a ninth grader, pitched a full game and had plenty of Cade Hooley throws 87 mph heat at an op-posing batter. Photo courtesy of Timpanogos Times PG Drops Serve to Lone Peak Then Shuts Out AF On Tuesday, April 5, the Vikings headed on a short road trip to Lone Peak High School to try and defeat a top ranked Knight tennis team. Knowing its going to be a tough set of matches and real-izing it is a tough set of matches for the Vikings can be two dif-ferent things. Many players think that they can beat a higher ranked opponent by actually doing it is usually very tough. And so it was for the Vikings as they faced Lone Peak on the Knights' home court. In Number 1 Singles ac-tion PG's Gustavo Santos lost to LP's Scott Bohne in two sets, 6, 6. Number 2 Singles matched PG's Hayden de Hoyos against Tanner Squires and lost, 2-- 6, 3-- 6. After a week off for Spring Break, the Vikings found themselves facing a good American Fork team on PG's home court on Tuesday, April 26. PG Varsity won the match 5- -0 against the Cavemen. Number 2 Doubles match gave the Viking's Mark Sheffield and Clayton Chudleigh the victory over AF's Brennan Jeffrey and Jed Baldwin, 8-- 1. Two in a Row for Viking Soccer by Dan Williams After a close loss to 4A Mountain View, the Pleas-ant Grove men's soccer team has reeled off two straight road wins bver region foes Hillcrest and Jordan. The victories place the Vikings in a good spot to qualify for the state 5A playoffs in Region 4. The Vikings have been in a tight race with Hillcrest for a playoff spot. Senior Winston Sorhaitz and sophomore Ryan Fonseca scored in the first half to give the Vikings a 2-- 0 half-tim- e lead. In the second half senior defender Braxton Atter-to- n scored followed by a second goal from Sorhaitz on an indi rect kick from the six yard box after the Hillcrest keeper picked up a ball passed back to him by a defender. With a 4-- 0 lead, the team relaxed a bit and allowed two late Hillcrest goals making the final score 4-- 2. Against Jordan, Sorhaitz scored in the first half off a di-rect free kick just outside the box from the right side. Short-ly into the second half, Jordan tied the score, but the Vikings responded on another Sorhaitz free kick this one an indirect kick that went off the Jordan keepers gloves for a goal and the 2-- 1 victory. Sorhaitz has now scored ten goals on the sea-son. Up next for the Vikings is American Fork. Springtime Snow and PG Greets Beetdiggers at Hoover Field by Kent Allen Springtime on the Wasatch blossomed in all its glory on Tuesday afternoon as the Jordan also pulled off a mini rally in the bottom of the seventh by scoring four more runs, but Jordan also put an insurance run across the plate for the final score 18-1- 6 af-ter three hours of play. This was a hard fought game with not a lot of defense as evi-denced by the score, but there are two more games to be played with these two teams and anything can happen. Bear in mind, this is the team that gave Lone Peak its only loss so far this year. They are currently sitting in third place in region behind Lone Peak and AF because of overall records. Af-ter having beaten American Fork twice last week and battling dan this hard today, PG should be proud of their game. There are always improvements to be made and a bit more sunshine couldn't hurt. At least three points worth! High Beetdiggers came to town to play the first of three games with the Vikings. On my way to work that morning, I went through two blizzard episodes and two blue-sk- y episodes. That should have been enough to let me know that conditions would be just fine to play baseball by the time game time would roll around that af-ternoon. And right on cue, as the National Anthem finished play-ing, the sun was shining, the wind started blowing and the snow be-gan to fall. Plus, this game just wouldn't quit. At the end of seven full in-nings, there had been 43 hits and 34 runs scored. It was a very ac-tive game with no lasting down time. The Vikings did have three up, three down in the fifth inning. Junior Rylan Peterson's fly ball was caught in the outfield, junior Riley Erickson did get on base with a walk, but was picked off on a good move from the mound by the Digger's pitcher then senior Court Iorg struck out at the plate. Senior Broc Starr easily took home the player of the game rec-ognition as he went 4 for 5 at the plate with three homeruns and a single. Senior Court Iorg also had a stellar day with his bat as he too went 4 for 5 with three doubles and a single. At the end of four innings, the Vikings tied the game up at 1 1 apiece thanks to a double by Iorg, single by Hooley and. a home run by Starr. Neither team scored in the fifth, but the dagger fell in the top of the sixth. Cade Hooley on the mound got the first two batters out and the Vikings were looking for their first 3 up, 3 down for the game. Unfortunately, after 1 1 9 pitches, Mr. Hooley began to let Springtime and fatigue take over and the next six batters brought their big boy bats to the plate and hit four singles, one triple and one home run before Hooley was returned to the bench and junior Sage Peacock came in as a relief pitcher. Not to worry if you are a Digger fan. He walked the next three batters and was quickly re-placed by senior Josh Scoresby. He took their last batter to a 2-- 2 count before finally striking him out to end the inning but not be-fore the Diggers had scored six more points to their talley. By this time, the fans started to thin out. There were not that many Digger fans anyway, but some die-har- d PG fans decided that dinner and a good fireplace held more appeal than Springtime baseball in Pleasant Grove with no good ending in sight. With another double to his credit, Mr. Iorg zipped home on a hard hit single by junior Zak Hicken in the bottom of the sixth bringing the score to 17-1- 2. PG ,m,-- .. IMil CI?
