PG Lacrosse Brings Home Utah Valley Championship Trophy On Saturday morning Pleasant Grove 2 met Mapleton 1 in the finals of the Utah Valley Lacrosse 7th8th Grade Championship. Cham-pionship. The result ended with PG2 steam-rolling a strong Maple-ton Maple-ton 1 team by a score of 1 1-3, ending the season with a 10-2 record. Both teams started strong and the first quarter ended 4-3 with PG2 holding a tight one goal advantage over Mapleton 1 as both teams tried to force their game plan. However; How-ever; behind a solid defensive defen-sive stand consisting of Zach Carter (goalie) and defensive players Tyler O' Laughlin, Ben Lee and Brek Hall, PG2 shutout shut-out Mapleton for the remainder remain-der of the game. In doing so, they held Mapleton 1 to their lowest offensive output of the season. Meanwhile, PG2 put on an offensive show in the second quarter by scoring a quick four unanswered goals using a fast breaking offense led by Chad Renslow, Ty Gassman, Ethan Hollis and Ryan Robley, putting PG2 up 8-3 at halftime. PG 2 added three more goals in the second half to seal the game with a final score of 1 1-3. To make the single elimination elimi-nation tournament finals, PG2 beat American Fork and Mapleton Maple-ton 2 handily in the preliminary rounds only to meet up with a very strong 8-1 PG1 in the semi-finals. PG2 pulled away in the final minutes after a very hard fought game. The semi-final game between PG2 and PG1 was much tighter than the final score of 1 1 to 8 indicated. Mapleton Ma-pleton 1 beat Provo and Spanish Span-ish Fork in the tourney to gain a shot at PG 2 in the Finals. |
