Show Econ. Dev. Committee Lists Qualifications for Director Willi all members present, the Grand County Economic Econom-ic Development Committee held its second meeting last Thursday evening. After some discussion, the men formulated a list of qualifications qualifi-cations that must be met by tlu; man who will be selected as director of Grand County Economic DevelopnlTlt. A large portion of the duties du-ties of the Director will be the filing of applicalioas for Federal and State aid. For Uiat purpose he must compile com-pile and krt-p complete files on Federal, State, County and City projects. For proposed projects to be compatable with local ordinances, he must have a thorough understanding of the master plan and zoning in Grand County and Moab City. He must have a good understanding of the background back-ground on Grand County including projects that have been proposed and whether they were completed or why they failed. Continuing in this sami vein, the new Director will need to have a good working work-ing knowledge of the tax 6J.-ucture, banking utilities, etc. in order that these may be presented to industry ,and business. He must be able to make a good evaluation evalu-ation of all projects and must have the knowledge and -personality for selling and promoting the area. One very vital aspect of his work will be knowing what businesses . are already 'in this area and he should be able to help when necessary nec-essary to maintain those busin?sses. ' The plans for " attracting new businesses should not overshadow his . work at keeping those businesses that we already have, stated stat-ed the Committee. A working acquaintance in Various State and Federal .offices would be helpful and jWould receive a rather heavy consideration by th3 group. Along with this acquaintance ac-quaintance of Federal and State officials, would be the ability to arrange his program pro-gram so that he would be able to work on several projects at one time. Closing Clos-ing the recommendations of the Committee was one that staled that the man should be prepared to spend con-.'Merable con-.'Merable time away from home. On Thursday of this week, the men will be interviewing interview-ing prospective men for the job of Director. At tj?at fime they will hear from interested inter-ested men as to their qualifications quali-fications to serve in that position. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Council Coun-cil Chambers of the courthouse. |
