By Royd Hart Last Tuesday the Pirates traveled to Price to play the Carbon J.V.s. The Pirates outclassed the Dinos in most every catagory. Quarterback Brad Burr scored the first touchdown and Tom Maughan tallied up two touchdowns for the day by hauling in some nice passes and picking his way through the defense with some fancy stepping. Randy Stubblefield had another fine day of running and scored a touchdown for the Pirates. Tim Vetere kicked an extra point and drilled a pass to Kyle Ekker for two points which made the final score 27-0. This brings Green River's season win-loss record to 4-0. Tracy Spadafora, Scott Banasky and Tim Vetere had outstanding days on the defensive squad. Bart Hansen, Kyle Ekker, T. Ross, Allen Burns, Bob Holloway, Terry Johnson, Phillip Lemieux, and Kam Weihing turned in fine plays for the day on defense and offense before they sat out for awhile so Green River's second team could get some experience. Green River's Jr. High team traveled to Emery to play South Emery last Friday. Willie Lemieux, Kenny Evans, Perry Hansen, Gib Ekker, Tracy Johnson, Russell Spadafora, Spada-fora, Tab Weihing, Jerry Womack, Mitch Vetere, Lynn Hunt, Kerry Bigelow, Tommy Whiteside, Buff Price, Dusty Hansen, Jeff Hunt, Larry Devereaux and Bill Watterson all contributed to the victorious victori-ous score of 14-6. Perry Hansen and Tracy Johnson scored the touchdowns with Mitch Vetere adding the extra points. Russel Spadafora broke his toe and will be out of play for awhile. Tom Maughan a 5'9". 165 lb. end, wingback and safety seems to be improving with every game. Tom has great hands for hauling in passes and does some pretty fancy footwork to gain every yard possible. He has been a threat for opposing defensive squads by scoring consistantly in past games. Tom wears the number 32 away and 31 at home. Phillip Lemieux weighing in at 165 lbs. and 5'9" has been playing center, tackle and nose guard for Green River. Even though some may say Phillip is small for a nose guard he has been blasting through the line in past games and chalking up many tackles. Phillip wears the number 50. Lee Vohs at 5'6" and 143 lbs. is a new student at Green River High School and to the football team. The Pirates have been helped by Lee's quickness in getting to the runner and almost always helping bring him down. Lee helps add to the depth of the Pirates, which any successful team needs. He wears the number 83 away and 88 at home. Scott Banasky weighs 167 lbs. and is 5'7". He wears the number 62 and plays guard and tackle. Scott is a bruising tackier and seems to enjoy every minute of it. Don't be surprised if Scott's name is mentioned for honors in football. Tracy Spadafora wearing the number 60 weighs 175 lbs. and is5'9". Playing guard and linebacker Tracy seems to have a knack for being in on most of the tackles and opening holes for Green River runners. Tracy will probably be a candidate for all-state. |
