Show Winners Listed in Canvonlands Barrel Meet The date for the finals of the Canyonlands Barrel Racing Association was August 30, 1976. Things got underway at 8 p.m. at the Monticello Fairgrounds. Each girl was given two go arounds and money was paid on the average. Jill Krist of Moab took first place with an average time of 39.1 seconds; Becky White, Moab, and Gail Dalton, Monticello, split second and third place money with each getting an average time of 39.5 seconds. Winner of the pole bending was Gail Dalton with a time of 24.2 seconds; Becky White took the goat tying when she wrapped the goat up in 10 seconds. The finals winner, Jill Krist, will receive an inlaid turquoise belt buckle at the Association's Associ-ation's awards banquet; tying for second at the finals, Becky White will receive 2 vet wraps, donated by Krist's Tack Shop of Moab, and Gail Dalton will be awarded 6 pr.of Knee High Hose, donated by Montgomery Montgom-ery Wards of Monticello. As winner in the pole bending of the finals, Gail Dalton received a Honda Shirt from Hondaland of Monticello. Becky White, w finals goat tying winner receives a $5 gift certificate from Lucille's of Moab. Also at the finals, Beverly Rowley was voted as Best Dressed of the finals, and was awarded a transistor radio, compliments of Redd Motor of Monticello. Gail Dalton was voted as Most Improved and received a gift certificate for a lube, oil and filter from Kirk's Chevron of Monticello. Hard Luck of the Year was awarded to Shannon Krist and she will receive a free foot trim for her horse from Jim White Shoeing of Moab. For helping at the finals, the club thanks Ked Somerville and Darla Higgins for timing; Revis Higgins and Paul Tippetts for flagging and Jim Stevens for the PA system, and Kent Rowley for working the arena. The CBRA has been holding weekly jackpots on Monday evenings, rotating from Moab, Monticello, and LaSal. The opening jackpot was held May 3rd in Moab, and the girls have been racing every week since that time. Points were awarded the top 4 winners of each jackpot. With the finals being held, the points for each girl have been added, and the 4 winners for this season are: 1st - Jill Krist, Moab, awarded a 1st place belt buckle and hand-tooled breast collar, donated by El Capitan Service of Kayenta, Arizona, nwnpH hv P.D. Black of Monticello. This breast collar t has been on display at the t Parkway Texaco in Monticello. 2nd - Beverly Rowley, Monticello, awarded a 2nd place belt buckle. 3rd - Gail Dalton, Monticello, Monti-cello, awarded a nylon halter, donated by Blue Mountain Meats in Monticello. 4th - Becky White, Moab, awarded a $10 gift certificate from Lil's Fabric Shop in Moab. Beverly Rowley also received re-ceived 300 of horsefeed from J.B. Grain of Monticello for obtaining the most donations for the club. To be awarded as door prizes at the CBRA awards banquet, will be: $5 gift certificate from the Spot Shop in Monticello; $5 gift certificate certifi-cate from Canyonlands Conoco in Moab; curb chain and hog pick from Krist's Tack Shop in Moab; bat from Blue Mountain Mount-ain Meats in Monticello; $5 gift certificate from Blue Mountain Foods in Monticello; $5 gift certificate from Blue Mountain Foods in Monticello; gift certificate for a long-playing record from Western Auto in Monticello. Black Oil Co. in Monticello donated 3 empty oil drums which have been painted by the club and are being used at the jackpots and rodeos in the area. Other sponsors of the CBRA this year include: $5 cash from Phillips 66 in Monticello; $5 cash from the Men's Store in Monticello; $5 cash from Bruce K. Halliday, Attorney at Law, Monticello; and $10 cash from Cochise Land and Development De-velopment Corp. of Moab. The CBRA members thank all the businesses and individuals individ-uals who have given the nice donations and helped in timing, flagging, and working the arenas this past season. |
